Prosser spills the beans on Android 12 ahead of Google I/O

We’re just three days away from the Google I/O 2021 keynote, where we’re expecting to learn more about Google’s software (and potential hardware) plans for the next year. This includes some potential changes to Wear OS and of course, Android 12. The Developer Preview has been available for a few months already, but we’re expecting to see the first Android 12 beta.

In the Developer Preview, there haven’t been any major visual changes unless you dive into ADB to enable the special one-handed mode in the Settings app. However, XDA Developers gave us a glimpse at some potential changes that are hidden in the code for Android 12 but are not consumer or developer-facing. As of today, XDA is not the only place that has gotten a glimpse at some of the new interface tweaks as Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech is back with another huge leak.

Not only did Prosser reveal some leaked slides that could be shown off during the Keynote, but he also shared a promotional video showing off these new design changes in action. This includes completely redesigned and more abstract widgets, along with a new analog clock and weather widget.

Something else that you’ll notice in the screenshot above is are how the notifications have been stacked. Google has been working on improving notifications and this looks to be how Google’s going to make it happen. Stacked notifications is amazing, and the promotional video appears to allow users to group notifications, even if they are coming from different apps. You’ll also see more rounded edges across the board, but this doesn’t come as too much of a surprise considering what we’ve already seen from the Android 12 developer previews.

The name of the game with Android 12 seems to be refinement and fluidity, but it’s surprising that Google hasn’t put this in the hands of developers just yet. But if Prosser is right, then Pixel owners are in for a wild ride with Android 12 ahead of its launch this Fall.
