Mobvoi’s TicPods 2 Pro+ could be the next truly wireless earbuds for you

0

While Samsung is busy taking over the flagship smartphone market, and Google is shocking everyone with the ultra-affordable Pixel 4a, there’s a battle taking place in the truly-wireless headphone space. We’ve already seen Sony launch the new WH-1000XM4’s, and even Samsung launched its own AirPods competitor with the Galaxy Beans Buds Live.

Mobvoi TicPods 2 Pro Review

Earlier this year, Mobvoi launched the TicPods 2 Pro, which saw a rather disappointing overall performance, earning 2.75 / 5 review rating. While battery life was rough and there were some connection issues, the inclusion of the new “head gestures” and a comfortable form factor made us hope that the company would provide an iterative update solving the problem. Enter the TicPods 2 Pro+.

What’s new with the TicPods 2 Pro+

This is truly an iterative update, as is evidenced by the naming scheme, with Mobvoi just adding the “Plus” on the end of the TicPods 2 Pro. It’s quite a mouthful to try and say, but hey, it’s still better than the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G. So did the company actually listen to the users and follow through on fixing a lot of the problems? Well, we don’t know for sure yet when it comes to the battery life and connection issues, as we haven’t gotten our ears on them yet.

Thanks to the updated Qualcomm ADK technology, this aims to improve the overall connectivity of the TicPods 2 Pro+ by offering “Single Pairing technology”. Not only will you be able to take advantage of using just a single earbud at a time, but Mobvoi has also added the gesture controls via touchpads to both earbuds. This is something that should just be a forgone conclusion to be included, but we’re glad to see the 2 Pro+ equipped with these features.

Quick Commands are another way for you to easily interact with these new headphones, as you can forgo trying to mess with your phone or the touchpad gestures if your hands are full. Quick Command 2.0 now adds “volume up” and “volume down”, to go along with music controls, or answering/ending phone calls.

While the TicPods 2 Pro were already sleek and slim, Mobvoi decided there was just too much plastic for its liking, so the case has slightly upgraded the case. There’s a new metal component found here, which will add just the right amount of heft and make the headphone case feel a bit more premium than just another plastic case to get all scratched up over time.

You will be able to order these for the same $139.99 price tag as the previous generation. For the time being, you’ll have to stick with Mobvoi’s own website, or you can take advantage of Prime and get them from Amazon. Let us know what you think about the TicPods 2 Pro+ in the comments below.
