There’s no denying that the OnePlus Nord is one of the most important smartphones to be released in the second half of 2020. While it isn’t a flagship smartphone, the OnePlus Nord offers incredible value with the perfect balance of performance, design and camera capabilities.

After pitting the OnePlus Nord versus the Pixel 4 in a camera shootout, we took the Nord up to see if it could keep up with the OnePlus 8 Pro – a flagship device that offers quite an impressive camera setup.

Both phones have a quad-camera setup on the back, but the Oneplus 8 Pro has a much better sensor for its ultrawide camera and a dedicated telephoto camera while the Nord only offers digital zoom. Where the Nord seems to have the advantage is with its duals-selfie cameras which includes an ultrawide for capturing more friends or a wider view of your background in your shots.

Take a look at the video and gallery below to see how the camera on each of these devices handle a variety of different lighting conditions.

At the end of the day, the OnePlus Nord simply can’t keep up with the OnePlus 8 Pro’s superior camera hardware. The Nord’s images aren’t bad, but it’s clear that the Nord’s budget-friendly price point has a dramatic impact on the image quality that its cameras are able to deliver.

That being said, we’ll be doing additional camera comparison between the Oneplus Nord and a handful of mid-range devices to see how the phone stacks up when taking on devices within its category.
