The OnePlus Nord will be a 5G capable smartphone for $299

For a while, we have been hearing that OnePlus is gearing up to launch an affordable smartphone.  Just earlier this week, the company’s CEO Pete Lau confirmed that they would be returning to their budget roots, and now it looks like the full specs of the company’s upcoming budget phone have been leaked, thanks to the folks at Android Central.

For starters, the phone which was initially rumored to be known as the OnePlus Z, will apparently be called the OnePlus Nord, and here are the specs of it:

  • 90Hz AMOLED display
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset
  • 32MP + 8MP camera combo on the front
  • 32MP + 8MP camera combo on the back

The phone is also tipped to be launching on the 10th of July in India, which we had previously heard about, and its price could be $299. Last we heard, the estimated price was around $330, but a tweet from OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei teased that it could be lower around the $299 mark.

Pei had retweeted an old tweet from 2014 with the launch of the OnePlus One, which some took to mean that Pei could be teasing the price of the OnePlus Nord. Either way, it’s something we’ll have to wait and see for ourselves. If true, then the OnePlus Nord could be a budget phone to reckon with.

Not only is it cheaper than other budget phones like the iPhone SE, but it could also be potentially cheaper than the upcoming Google Pixel 4a, plus with the use of the Snapdragon 765G, it will be a cheap phone with support for 5G, something that the Pixel 4a is rumored to be lacking.

Take this with a grain of salt, but check back with us in the coming weeks for hopefully the official details.
