For some reason, a lot of people seem to be hating on the notch, so much so that companies have picked up on this and have opted to come up with different designs instead. Take for example the Samsung Galaxy S10 which has opted to use a hole-punch display in place of the notch. Or devices like the Vivo V15 Pro that uses a popup camera.
According to a report from Notebook Italia, ZTE could be attempting to break away from those designs with the ZTE Axon V, an upcoming smartphone that could feature a horizontal slideout camera, which you can see in the image below. Slideout cameras aren’t new and we have seen other devices like the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 use it to great effect, although ZTE’s implementation will be different.
In terms of usability, we’re not sure if sliding out the camera from the side will be as intuitive as sliding it down, but then again it could be that ZTE is trying to encourage users to shoot using the phone like they would a camera by holding it in landscape position. Regardless, we imagine that this is something that users will need to get used to.
Other specifications of the ZTE Axom V include a 6.8-inch display which offers a 95% screen-to-body ratio, a triple rear camera which includes a 48MP, f/1.7 main sensor, 19MP secondary sensor with a 5X f/2.4 lens, a third 3D sensor with an f/3.8 lens and a xenon flash. The phone will also feature two front-facing cameras on the slide-out with capacitive zoom controls below them
ZTE themselves have yet to make any kind of official confirmation so until they do, it’s probably best to take this report with a grain of salt for now.
