You can buy Meizu’s buttonless smartphone on Indiegogo
About a week ago, Meizu took the wraps off a smartphone called the Meizu Zero. While Meizu might not necessarily be a brand most of us think of stateside, it did catch our attention as the Zero is a smartphone with a rather unique design in which it does away with all external buttons and even ports.
This means that the phone relies purely on gestures and also wireless charging. No doubt this is an interesting concept and if you’d like to get your hands on it, Meizu has launched the smartphone on Indiegogo in a bid to help raise money for production. The company is hoping to raise $100,000 in a month’s time and at this time of posting, they have managed to raise close to $20,000.
The Meizu Zero will not come cheap though as the company has priced it at $1,300 which is enough to give us pause, but perhaps some of you might find it worth it. It will come with features like wireless charging, which Meizu is calling “Super mCharge Wireless” with the ability to output 18W, which should, in theory, it allow it to charge much faster than most wireless chargers.
It also features a sound-on display called “mSound 2.0” (a feature that is also rumored to find its way onto the LG G8) that allows sound to come through the display, thus eliminating the need for speaker grills. There will also be eSIM support and the use of an in-display fingerprint sensor.
It should be noted that while the phone’s design and some of its features seem rather futuristic, it is using last year’s Snapdragon 845 which is a little bit disappointing as for such a futuristic phone and for its asking price, we’d have expected the Snapdragon 855.
