Ever since the ZTE Axon 7 launched back in 2016, the device has become a fan favorite, especially in the rooting community. Fans of the device have been clamoring for the successor, while also looking forward to the launch of Android Oreo.
In November, ZTE confirmed plans to launch a true successor to the Axon 7 and in December confirmed that Oreo was on the way. Today is the lucky day for some Axon 7 owners, as ZTE has opened its Android Oreo beta program.
Here are some of the new features that ZTE is bringing with the Oreo update:
Registering for the Oreo beta is a “first come, first serve” endeavor, and you’ll need to use the link here to register. From there, ZTE will notify you when and if you have been chosen, but you will need to be on the latest build of its software (build B35). Another pre-requisite for joining this beta program is that your device model number should be the “A2017U”, which is the US-only model.
Another of the requirements for joining the beta program is that you will need to provide regular feedback on how the OS is running. This shouldn’t be too difficult, as long as you’re familiar with the ZTE Forums.
While it’s great to see ZTE moving forward and updating a device from 2016 with the latest version of Android, we are still unsure as to when the final version will launch. Some reports claim that the final version could drop in April, but we’ll have to wait and see how this beta program fares.
Let us know if you were able to join the beta program, and how Oreo is running on your ZTE Axon 7.
