The Samsung Galaxy X has been rumored since all the way back in 2014, but for different reasons, Samsung has continued to delay the release of the device. This is more than likely due to attempting to ensure that the foldable display is 100% ready for prime time, but we may be nearing the end of the line.
A new report claims that Samsung has finally decided upon the final specs for the Galaxy X, along with the production schedule. The Galaxy X will begin mass production in November of this year, before making its debut in either December or early in 2018.
The same report suggests that the device will have a 7.3-inch OLED display, which folds into itself, creating a clamshell-like effect, and being able to be unfolded rather easily. However, Samsung’s display division has been hard at work determining whether the display will end up being harmed after being unfolded and folded repeatedly over long periods of time.
Unfortunately, there is no other mention of the potential specs for the device, although we are expecting the Galaxy X to be equipped with some flagship-level hardware. This includes at least 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and possibly the Snapdragon 845 chipset, to go along with Samsung’s best OLED panels.
With the smartphone market beginning to get a little bit boring, a completely new category of devices would feel like a fresh breath of air, and Samsung is hoping to provide the best.
