Google “Bisto” are Bluetooth headphones that run Google Assistant

(not Google Bisto)

Bluetooth headphones are all the rage these days. That’s largely due to companies removing the headphone jacks from phones at an alarming rate. The Pixel 2 is rumored to not have a headphone jack, but Google may have their own answer to Apple AirPods ready to swoop in and save the day.

Version 7.10 of the Google app was torn apart and some references to “Bisto” appeared again. Bisto first popped up April, but was removed in a later update. It’s back again with more information. A string in the APK says:

<string name=”bisto_magic_pairing_assistant_prop_text”>”Your headphones have the Google Assistant. Ask it questions. Tell it to do things. It’s your own personal Google, always ready to help.”</string>

It doesn’t get any more clear than that. Bisto is likely just a codename for Bluetooth speakers that work with Google Assistant. The APK has even more secrets to reveal. You’ll be able to have notifications recited to you and reply to them with your voice. Almost like having Android Wear in your ear. The headphones will have a physical Assistant button and the ability to receive OTA updates.

We don’t know much else about this device, but it would make sense to announce them alongside the Pixel 2. Anyone that buys a Pixel 2 is going to need a good pair of Bluetooth headphones. What do you think of the idea? Would you use Assistant in headphones?
