Last year, Fitbit went on a buying frenzy as the company snapped up various smartwatch manufacturers including Pebble and Vector. These suggested that the company was gearing up to launch its own proper smartwatch, and Yahoo Finance has acquired press images of the wearable.
Expected to launch this fall, the smartwatch codenamed “Higgs” looks a bit like a successor to the Fitbit Blaze fitness tracker. However, according to the report from Yahoo Finance, there were employees who complained about the design as it has more of a “retro” look to it.
As for specs, the Higgs will include a color display, built-in GPS, heart-rate monitor, 4 days of battery life, and the ability to “make touchless payments”. All of the sensors will be housed within an aluminum unibody design, and will likely be priced around the $300 price-point.
The Higgs will also be able to store music locally, which is perfect for the leaked Bluetooth headphones which were also leaked. These headphones, codenamed “Parkside”, will look to take on the likes of the Beats X and Jaybird X3’s as they will be able to hang from your neck.
Additionally, the Parkside headphones will come in 2 color variants, Nightfall Blue and Lunar Gray. The report also states that these headphones will be priced at around $150, which puts them in direct competition with other established brands.
Things aren’t looking great for Fitbit, but the company is hoping to rebound with the “Higgs” smartwatch when it’s ready to launch this Fall. It will be interesting to see how the market reacts to this latest smartwatch, as it definitely ventures far from the “sleek and sexy” looks that we have seen from other OEM’s.
