All the rage in social networking these days is live video. Whether you’re streaming an event or just babbling on about your day, many people are starting to use it as a tool to get closer to people.
It’s no surprise, then, that one of the most photo/video-centric social networks on the planet wants to get in on the fun. We’re talking about Instagram.
It’s not surprising that a Facebook-owned company wants to piggyback on the latest social revolution. After all, Instagram’s transition from being a pure photo platform to a more fluid and dynamic medium directly benefits from the technology.
Instagram’s exact implementation hasn’t yet been detailed, though CEO Kevin Systrom confirmed that live broadcasts will appear at the top of your feed just as regular Instagram posts would, only they’ll have a red border with the text “Live” somewhere in the corner.
Beyond that, we’re sure Instagram will want some sort of support for live reactions. Hearts are the most likely even if it does appear to rip off Periscope. But we’re hoping for some stickers and maybe chat support to make things even more personal. Here’s hoping it doesn’t take long to make its way to the public.
