Samsung is working on a Gear VR controller that can be stored inside the headset

Samsung has a new controller coming for the Gear VR headset. The company made one for the innovator edition back before this thing went on sale for the general public, but this new headset — which was leaked in 3D renders — achieves a couple of things:

  1. It identifies itself as a new standard controller for the Samsung Gear VR. Yay!
  2. More importantly, this particular controller was designed to dock inside the Samsung Gear VR headset while it’s not in use.

The cost of such a design is a controller that’s pretty thin. While thinness might be a good thing for smartphones, many people prefer a solid controller that has enough room to grip the edges without being uncomfortable. Of course, we can’t speak to its comfortability by photo along, so we digress.

Samsung also has a menu button for comfortability accessing the settings menu while using the Samsung Gear VR, as well as an LED light for battery indication. No word yet on when we’ll see this thing launch.
