We know Amazon has a great new high-end Kindle e-reader that was announced today, but the company also seemingly has plans to bring us a new tablet for those who are on a budget and want something more than an eBook reader.
A new Amazon device has hit GFX Bench, and its specs suggest it’s a direct follow-up to the Kindle Fire HD 8. The device was listed with a 1.3GHz quad-core 64-bit MediaTek MT8163 chipset, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, a 2-megapixel camera, and an 8-inch 1,280 x 800 display. It’s also running Android 5.1 Marshmallow, though we’re sure Amazon isn’t too concerned about launching without Marshmallow considering they are keen on Frankensteining Android into something of their own.
Oddly enough, the specs for this thing are mostly either parallel or downgrades compared to the current model, something that signals Amazon is looking to make the device even cheaper than the $149 the original went for. That, or the company will keep it at the same price and look to expand their profit margin a bit more. Either way, they seem fixated on having affordable options available, so be on the lookout for more information if this is what you’re in the market for.
