It wasn’t long ago we heard the Moto X Pure Edition was receiving a soak test out of nowhere, though we weren’t yet sure what that soak test was for. We had our fingers crossed for Android 6.0 Marshmallow the entire way, though it was a bit early for those wishes to seem more than dreamy.

But Motorola did, in fact, start pushing Marshmallow out to a very few select group of testers. That much was confirmed by David Schuster, the man at Motorola responsible for these things.

He says not to think of it as a traditional soak test, but more of an early test drive to see where their firmware stands before being able to start a full-blown soak test and eventual rollout. Even if they aren’t considering it a proper soak test or update, it’s pretty impressive to have Marshmallow in users’ hands so soon.

Those are the perks of letting Android be Android and not trying to paint every corner of the user experience, we suppose. And leaving the carriers out of the equation means we’ll see the update rollout that much sooner. Stay tuned for further news on the impending Marshmallow release.
