We all know Qualcomm can’t afford to screw up with the Snapdragon 820, but just how much better than the Snapdragon 810 will it be? According to some early benchmark leaks, it’s besting its predecessor by a mark of 35% in CPU performance, and also enjoys a nice 40% uptick in graphics.

These values aren’t final, of course, so there’s potential for the chip to get even faster by the time it releases. It’s also worth mentioning that these improvements are par for the course in terms of raw speed.

It’s going to be the other areas Qualcomm failed on with the Snapdragon 810, with that being power efficiency and heat management. Thankfully we shouldn’t expect those problems to repeat in the Snapdragon 820 as it’ll be using 14nm FinFet processes for a significant thermal and power improvement over the Snapdragon 810’s 20nm process.

Beyond that, Qualcomm will be sure to tick all the boxes in terms of state-of-the-art hardware capabilities, LTE modems and other such doohickies. Enough to turn things around and reclaim a solid throne inside the chipset kingdom? That remains to be seen, but we think there’s a pretty good chance of that happening.
