A user over at XDA is reporting to quite possibly be among the first on the receiving end of the Android 5.1.1 update for the Samsung Galaxy S6. Eduardo Mera (Sunderwear on XDA) provides evidence that his T-Mobile-branded Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge received the build only minutes ago, a build that appears to have been compiled by the manufacturer only yesterday.

Confirmed are reports that Guest Mode would be enabled in the latest build, and overall performance seems improved based on this limited evidence. But the news isn’t all good. It appears the update also comes with a locked boot loader.

We have been unable to confirm the update’s availability on either our Galaxy S6 Edge or Galaxy S6 units. Let us know in the comments if you have received Android 5.1.1 on your device.

  1. What kind of Sorcery is this? Nexus 5 and I have 5.1.

    1. Somebody start a “Go Fund/Find Me a Date” campaign for this man…… (⊙_⊙)

    2. Yea I want this phone even more now, just put in a request at my company.

    3. Yea well if you on att, you go dry up quick buddy, because att don’t know how to update anything on time

  3. as long as it is keeping these functions all is well.

  4. Nothing on T-Mobile S6 Edge as of now.

  5. Wha!? The T-Mobile Nexus 6 hasn’t even received 5.1.1 yet…I’m having trouble buying this, especially when the S6 still runs TouchWiz Nature UX 5.0.

    1. Don’t worry, it’s probably a minor update from 5.1 to 5.1.1 on the Nexus 6 since it probably has the multi-user feature.

  6. the pop-up animation when opening up the app-tray seems faster… previously it was too slow…

  7. Im on 5.1.1 on a non nexus device
    D850 CM 12.1

    1. On what device, and did you install an unofficial build?

    2. Custom ROM no doubt. That doesn’t count.

  8. Before the nexus 6 ? Wtf is going on here???

  9. Cyanogenmod 12.1 seems to be 5.1.1 now

It reared it’s head on my n4 the other day

And yet only the nexus player has 5.1.1 so far

As far as factory images go

Google may do the Ota rollout just prior to pushing the factory images
Like they initially did with the 5.1 n4 update

  10. Update:this mystical device suddenly bricked and is getting holes poked in the story over @ XDA…

    1. Nah it’s real.

    2. Flashing cfroot bricked my phone.. it’s not ready for 5.1.1 so waiting for a fix from chainfire…but I managed to get it back running and posted the system dumps for developers to use as a base.

  11. Hopefully this fixes the cell standby bug and the memory leak issue… When coming out of some apps it takes at least 25 seconds for my home screen to render…

    1. lol 25 seconds? That is definitely an isolated issue. I would factory reset or do some more troubleshooting.

      1. Man it feels like 25 seconds lol its probably more like 6 or 7…did a factory reset and I’m still having the same issue… Cell standby still sucking battery and memory leakage

        1. and you did the temp fixes for the time being? Turn off voLTE and disable wifi calling? My battery life improved dramatically when i turned those off until they fix…which they will…just a matter of time

          1. Just did it, turned off phone and turned it back on.

          2. Ok cool. Once you turn voLTE off and wifi calling off your battery life should improve. Now we wait for an official fix lol

          3. Thanks for the tip! Hopefully this works… I contemplated returning it and waiting for the G4

          4. No problem! G4 looks good, not going to lie. But even as bad as Samsung has been (in the past) about their updates….LG is just as bad or even worse

          5. Yeah it does… But the G3 got updated around the same time the s5 got updated… Unless your talking about minor updates and bug fixes…

          6. I didn’t have either, so I’m not 100% sure. I did have the G2 and I don’t even remember getting an update lol

          7. Wow… This worked… Cell standby is now down to 1%! Now if they could just fix the memory leak…

          8. Nice! and they will….shortly

  12. Maybe they will add glove mode and also the “ok google” back…

    1. The “OK Google” issue is related to a Play Services bug.

      1. No one knows that for sure. Everyone is blaming everyone else.

        1. I don’t use silly voice “assistants”, so I have no dog in the fight. I’m just pointing out what many have noticed…the issue arose right after a Play Services update.

  13. 5.1.1 before my N6….hmmmm interesting.

  14. Niah niah Samsung is bad at updating devices niah niah nexus niah niah

    1. What!?

  15. I’m not buying it. Builds have been faked before and I seriously doubt Samsung of all companies would get it out before it hit all the Nexuses.

  16. 2 Edges, no update

  17. I have a Nexus 6, but I ain’t even mad.

… but my Nexus 9? Yeah, I’m salty.

  18. Could be just a build.prop edit.

    1. I showed off Android 5.2 to my friends a month ago :P
