Official: Lollipop begins rolling out to the Moto E and Moto Maxx, but only in select regions

It’s official: Lollipop has begun rolling out to Motorola Moto E and Motorola Moto Maxx owners. Well, some of them anyway. Announced on Motorola’s official blog, it’s more of a soak test that starts with the Moto E in India and Brazil, as well as the Moto Maxx (GSM variant of the DROID Turbo) in Mexico and Brazil.

If everything turns out alright and no major bugs are discovered, the update will expand to new regions around the world. If you live outside of Mexico, Brazil, or India and own either one of these devices, just know that the update is practically on your doorstep.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. Nice. I’m on the edge of my seat and have been for awhile waiting for the Verizon Moto G Prepaid XT1028. Your blog should post that when it starts please and thank you.

  2. So yeah, about that Droid Turbo…..

  3. Still waiting for Moto to update the Droid Maxx. Next phone will be a Nexus device or an iPhone. Waiting for the latest and greatest on anything else seems hit or miss, which is sad.

  4. …And still no update for the 2013 Moto G…

  5. Still waiting on the Verizon M8

  6. I was hoping for X (2013)… Oh well…

    1. I know! But a Motorola rep in a Google+ community yesterday mentioned that 2013’s X8 Computing System is the reason for Lollipop’s delay: they’re working on getting it just right for the older chipset. In my mind, the 2013 Moto X will receive Lollipop and probably not any minor updates to it. Anxiously awaiting it, though.

  7. Am I the only one who’s annoyed by regional updates? I understand the (supposed) advantages of releasing it to a smaller number of users first, but at the same time I can’t help but to feel like a second rate citizen.

  8. Thats great, I’m also using Moto E and I was waiting for lollipop update. I wish they release the update as soon as possible.
