Don’t look now, but LG just trademarked names for six years’ worth of future flagship devices. They were granted rights to trademarks for the LG G3, LG G4, LG G5, LG G6, LG G7, LG G8 and LG G9 over at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
The LG G3, as you know, is already out, and we’re expecting the LG G4 to arrive at some point in the first half of 2015, so those aren’t odd at all. The other five on this huge list? It’s likely they aren’t working on most of them (if the LG G4 is close to finished then the LG G5 is probably in the very early stages) and they’re just securing trademarks for future usage.
There’s no guarantee LG will even stick with their tried and true naming convention for that long, but it’s always nice to cover all your bases just in case. Now let’s hope we start to hear some real concrete details (the G4 is rumored to have ultra-high resolution, but that was a given) about the next smartphone due in the South Korean company’s flagship lineup in the near future.
BRB – Going to see if I snag rights for ‘G10’.
lol …
I’m surprised they didn’t trademark LGX
They’re not the NFL. ;)
Obligatory:
Gotta protest that G8.
Not Antenna-Gate or Bend-Gate, but “LG Gate”.
I was waiting for that G6 so I can have “Like a G6” as my ringtone playing on my G6. So everyone will say “I want to have my phone be like a G6.”
LoL!! I’m so mad at that corny cleverness. =.P
Yawn. This is about as surprising as the “news” that after the S6 Samsung will also produce an S7, and maybe even an S8.
