NVIDIA is staying on top of software updates for their SHIELD Tablet, releasing the minor (but much appreciated) upgrade to Android 5.0.1 only a month after the tablet received its first iteration of Lollipop. While the new Android version brings mostly minor bug fixes and system enhancements, some additional goodness has been added into the mix to support the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet.
Users will notice improvements in app and UI responsiveness along with a new Live Effects HD camera mode. These HDFX will take advantage of the SHIELD’s Tegra K1’s GPU with live previews so you will know exactly how your photos will turn out. NVIDIA also returns the Power Control Menu, improves memory optimization, adds support for OpenGL 4.5, and more. The full log can be found at NVIDIA’s site.
How in the world did this get the update before my precious M8
Don’t know but AT&T didn’t lock up the update for US LTE users this time. I can’t wait for lollipop on my HTC M7 and Sony Z3 as well.
Had I known this I probably would have thought twice about getting the Nexus 9. Although I do think the 9″ form factor is the sweet spot for tablets.
I haven’t had a chance to mess around with the Shield Tablet yet, but I have the Shield portable. It is one of the greatest purchases I have made. I am a little disappointed that their updates to the Portable stopped at 4.4.4 but it still works great with everything. Up to the 4.4.4 update, all updates were incredibly speedy. My biggest problem with it is that there are so many things you can do with it that you get lost figuring out which to do. My latest thing to do is stream Gas Guzzlers Extreme to my TV and use my new Nexus Player controller to beat it. Here are some great pictures of it: http://www.gratuitoustech.com/2014/12/shield-portable-christmas-re-review.html
It would be great to see what the extra horsepower of the Tablet would do.
