Android 5.0 teaser video

It’s official. After Android 4.4. KitKat, the next version of Google’s mobile OS will be Android 5.0. The version number was confirmed in a new teaser video posted to the Android YouTube channel, showing Google still taking auditions for the actual dessert name.

In the video, just about all the sweet L treats can be found, with people dressed up as Lava Cake, Lemon Drop, both red and black licorice, even a Lady Finger (I think it’s safe to say Lettuce Head at 0:15 doesn’t stand a chance). The hype is most certainly real. Can you feel it? Check out Google’s new teaser video below.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

Report: Nexus 6 and 9 will offcially be revealed tomorrow along with pre-order and launch dates

  1. How awesome! Interestingly, Lollipop was left out!

    1. I’m still trying to figure out why they showed an Oreo? THEY’RE REALLY MESSING WITH US NOW.

      1. He’s getting a head start on the o’s

      2. L’oreo
        L’Oréal?

        1. because we are wroth it too

    2. As was liquorice. My money is on one or the other.
But then again, they know full well people would have noticed those omissions so my guess is something completely different and possibly with extra marketing potential, such as another brand name.

      1. Liquorice wasn’t left out. There are two women dressed as Liquorice, red and black. It is a bit more subtle but it’s definitely liquorice.

        1. Must admit, I was only paying attention to the words on the screen :oD (I’m tired).
Lollipop sounds the most catchy and perhaps the best name but I feel leaving it out is still too much of a red herring.

    3. Because tomorrow they’ll show the extended clip where Lollipop walks out of the Android 5.0 door.

  2. Google is so much cooler then Apple

  3. Seriously, what was up with the Oreo? Could possibly consider making the jump all the way to “O”? Unnnnghhhhh

I’m not going to be able to sleep tonight. -_-

    1. It was just for fun. Supposed to be comedic since an O treat showed up at an L casting. It’s just like “What the heck? This is for L buddy, not O! hahaha”

      1. Ah, that’s actually pretty funny. Ha Guess I’m WAY overthinking all this. Lol

        1. That Nexus hype getting to ya!

    2. I think the Oreo is Todd Giebenhain from Raising Hope:)

    3. I doubt they’d go all “Windows 10” on us…

      1. microsoft didn’t actually skip 9, they just called it 8.1.
        windows 7, internal version number 6.1, 6+1=7
        windows 8, internal version number 6.2, 6+2=8
        windows 8.1, 8+1=9, internal version number 6.3, 6+3=9
        windows 10, internal version number 6.4, 6+4=10
a bit odd, but it “adds up”

        1. wanst it beacuse
          {
          if $windowsnumber == 9*
          do math
          }- ish stuff?

  4. Trollololol

  5. The funniest part of this video:

    1. Totally missed that xD

    2. Awesome.
      Lesson learned :

Google has a trolling department. This video is so well done. Brilliant.

    3. The guy next to the women in the red blouse looks familiar lol

      1. Slimmed down dj lubel :P

  6. Hahaha!

  7. The most interesting part of this video:

    1. LAYER CAKE! LAYER CAKE!

    2. One of your question marks (the multi-colored dessert) are Macaroons. The dessert that the guy in the Lady Finger costume is eating looks like larger Lady Fingers. One of them looks like a bowl full of Hohos, but that wouldn’t make sense. The dessert on the platter, next to the jellybean machine, looks like peanutbutter sandwiches. The pie, not sure at all.

      1. M – Macaroons
        N – ?
        O – Oreo
        P – Pie
        ??????????????????????????

        1. Looking at the pick again, maybe the bowl that I thought was hohos is actually, Peanutbutter cups? Hard to tell form the angle cuz they could also be bite size brownies. And the dessert in the corner, I take back. Looks like there’s some sort of frosting on it, so not likely peanutbutter sandwich. Maybe pound cake? If so, there could be 3 possible names in the future P. Maybe N is for “Nestle”, another branding partnership for Google?…doubt it, but just a thought.

        2. N-Nutella. lmao

    3. Is he supposed to be a Lemon Cookie? (because Lemons… would be bad.)

      1. He’s a lady finger. The video actually names him.

        1. Ohhhhhh. Missed that.

    4. Hmm, easter eggs. A subtle hint that our next name is somewhere on that table/hidden in the video? As in a “easter egg”? There’s also pretzels on the table that aren’t pointed to, behind the easter eggs.

    5. It looks like the lady finger is eating lady fingers.

  8. its official google is messing with us

  9. notice which l treat is missing

  10. What if it’s just “L”?

  11. Has anyone considered that “L” is the roman numeral for “50”

  12. My fellow android fans, why you care if it is called “L” or “F*** ” !! Important question is where is the Beef ? Means when is Androud next version “L” being released for public use(open source, XDA). Now, that is the question ?????? Hope tomorrow is the day !!

  13. I’ll just leave this here.
    *runs*

  14. Lava Cake?

  15. I have a Note 3 so I won’t be getting the update till next May.

  16. The artist that makes the statues for Google Campus was trolling and said he was handing out licorice at the air port.

  17. Notice the Oreo??? comment in the video? So I looked up Wikipedia… Lemon Ice Oreo. So, there was lemon meringue, lemon drop, and a hint at lemon ice from that Oreo… ? That’s a lot of lemon in the video.

  18. Everyone is there except the lollipop… But who is in the audit-room? *drumroll*

  19. Can anyone read the signs that are on the #2 and #3 doors in the beginning of the video when Lemon Meringue Pie is doing his jumping jacks? Maybe some nifty info hidden in there?
