Sony getting serious about America? US event scheduled for October 9th

Sony could be looking to make a statement about their intentions to have a bigger presence here in the United States. The company has scheduled an October 9th event where they’ve invited folks to “demand great.” Anyone paying attention to Xperia Z3 marketing knows that is the main tagline being used for the device.

We already know the phone is headed to at least T-Mobile, which is a very good start if they want to start to gain some penetration in the United States. Unfortunately we aren’t exactly sure what they’ll be showing. This could be a reintroduction, of sorts, for the Xperia Z3 here in the United States, and there’s a chance it could even come with an announcement of availability on more carriers. Another possibility is that we see a new phone altogether.

Sony hasn’t quite been able to gain traction along the lines of LG, Samsung, Motorola and HTC, but they’re going to need it if they want their mobile division to stay afloat. Recent reports suggest Sony is still bleeding a ton of money from that division — so much so that they expect it to contribute to a loss of around $2 billion.

That’s not chump change for a company of Sony’s size, so they’ll need to turn things around in a hurry if they want to prevent having to sell the division off. Let’s hope this event puts them on the right path to future success.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

      2. I can tell right away you’re going to pay too much! lol I’m getting the green one.

      3. This phone should come to the US with a Google Play Edition.

      4. That’s the full-sized one. The smaller one has a 4.7″ screen that is 1280x720p. Still, both are amazing. Supposedly the Compact gets close to 14 hours of on-screen time. That’s insane.

      5. Wow, so much to set it apart from the competition.

  3. Me and my PS4 are very interested. Hurry up, October

  4. Z3 on VZW
    Z3 on VZW
    Z3 on VZW

come on, say it with me, Z3 on VZW

    1. Exactly!!!

    2. Dream on!
VZW is such a loser when it comes to Sony products, some of the best devices and VZW turns their noise up at them.
      VZW SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

      1. Well, the always running rumor train has said that VZW is getting the Z3. Of course, we’ll see if that is the case on 10/09/2014.

      2. Yes, because the other major US carriers are all super friendly to Sony devices.

  5. Exciting :D

  6. My $700 would make it a $1,999,999,300 loss.

  7. Anyone know how well Sony does at upgrading their phones to the latest Android software?

    1. Root it and you pretty much can control what, when, how, where :)

  8. the Z3 should a design award. That is one sexy phone…

  9. I’m crossing my fingers that it launches on T-Mobile immediately after.

  10. Sony here is the plan make your phones available in all carriers and you are good to go.

  11. I’d like them to announce US carriers as well as larger capacity versions at reasonable prices. 16GB storage in 2014? Really? All of the other big players started offering 32GB min last year and some have moved up to 64GB offerings too.

    1. Hello Moto?

  12. Oh man! Maybe they’ll show off the Z4. It’s about time given how long the Z3 has been out. Bring it on!

  13. Z3 compact on T-Mobile please TY

  14. I will only consider Sony serious in the U.S. if they launch the Z3 on all 4 national carriers at the same time.

  15. I’ve decided to give the Z3 a try over the Note 4, and switch to t mobile. .

  16. I want the full size one! That phone is sweet

  17. It would suck if they give T-Mobile another exclusive then they will leave the u.s. market. Then its not news.

  18. Sony are great on consoles but horrible in phone mobile.

  19. These are the first phones I’ve been excited about in a long time. I’m hoping they both come to VZW shortly after 10/9! I’m buying one of each if so.

  20. Sony should more focus on their entertainment and gaming divisions. That’s where the real money is. The mobile market is saturated and too competitive.
