It seems HTC latest hobby is to release their built-in apps to the Google Play Store. This allows them to more easily update things like the Blinkfeed launcher without sending a full OS update to devices. They’ve even made some of the apps available to all Android users, but most are HTC-only. Today they released another such app into the Play Store: Sense 6 Lock Screen.

The lock screen on Sense 6 devices is a very handy feature. It gives you the date & time, plus weather, and calendar events. The best feature, however, is the ability to instantly launch into the apps you have placed in the dock. Also, if Blinkfeed is your thing you can swipe right into it from the lock screen. Every manufacturer has their own version of the lock screen, but HTC might have the best.

There is nothing new about the version in the Play Store right now…yet. HTC will be able to add news features much easier now. If you have an HTC device be sure to download the app below.

Ever since I flipped open my first phone I've been obsessed with the devices. I've dabbled in other platforms, but Android is where I feel most at home.

  1. Honestly, while it may not be such a big deal to some of you, seeing stuff like this is what’s keeping me hanging onto the HTC One M8 (black bezel bar be damned).

As Android enthusiasts, I think we often times place too much importance on raw hardware specs when software support is equally (maybe even more) important than having the highest-end hardware.

This is why I push people away from OEMs that don’t support older devices (or even some of their newer ones). LG G3/ OnePlus One — they all have great hardware, there’s no denying that. But I can’t stress enough how important software support is, whether it’s system apps or firmware updates.

There’s nothing that makes you fall in love with your phone all over again than constantly seeing new core features added all the time. Thanks, HTC.

    1. This is very true, I have an opportunity to use the G3 for a while but every time I can’t tear myself away from my M8. Its just a fantastic all around device that’s well supported. I don’t hear much complaints from users that own an M8. Everything from battery life to day to day use is just spot on.

  2. My M8 is showing that my device isn’t supported (used the link provided int he article since a manual search isn’t showing up for me). Also worth noting that a lot of users are PISSED OFF and have been having issues booting their devices after installing this Lock Screen update… uh oh. Glad I waited.

    1. I ran the update on my M8 running InsertCoin and it worked fine.

  3. Mine self updated. I only noticed it because it prompted a restart.

  4. And I don’t think it took it from the Play Store, as the prompt seemed more like a system message.
