Google Play Store device listings get a quick makeover before Nexus 5 release

Google Play Store update

It’s been awhile since we’ve seen changes made to the Google Play Store on the web. But just in time for the inevitable Nexus 5 release, it seems Google is doing a little tidying up. Hopping on over to Google Play’s Nexus 7 listing, you’ll notice a cleaner layout, removing separate listings for various device configurations, replacing them instead with simple 16GB or 32GB selection boxes and connectivity dropdown menu. We approve.

While not ground breaking, it does make users’ shopping experience that much easier and highlights some last minute changes before the Nexus 5 (and maybe even the Nexus 4?) arrives on the scene. Shouldn’t be much longer, folks. The anticipation is building.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. LET IT BEGIN!

    1. ? ?

  2. Well I just sold my note 2 so I hope it comes out soon

    1. I too just sold my RAZR HD. Hoping to snatch a white N5. First white phone that I like.

  3. Already ordered my Diztronic TPU case for the Nexus 5. ;-)

    1. Ordered a couple of TPU cases from China today, myself:-)

  4. And then Google says, “kit Kat will be rolling out in the next few weeks”.

    1. Down vote for you fella for killing the anticipation!

      1. Haha thank you. You did me a favor.

      2. Right on the money wasn’t I?

  5. I actually don’t like it. On the right there is the connectivity drop down yet LTE is unselectable with the 16GB model and there is no indication as to why. Change the storage size to 32GB and then you can magically select LTE (only if you look for it). I think the readability of it needs to be improved.

    1. If you click the disabled LTE option, it does explain. But i agree, its not too clear.

      1. Oh I see. I tend to not click items which are clearly in a ‘not selectable’ state. would be good if there was a mouse over ‘click to see options’ or something.

    2. because there is no such thing as a 16GB LTE model…

      1. I don’t think users should be expected to know every configuration of storage/connectivity available.

        1. They just let you know by not giving you the option to drop down on the 16GB model.

          1. And as a user I think “I can’t get LTE. Why can’t I get LTE?” It’s giving zero indication as to why I can’t get LTE and what I can do to get LTE

Clicking will show another window but requiring users to click on a button that is in a visually not-selectable state is not good design at all.

          2. It must be hell for you to shop for clothes online. “No red in medium? WHY CAN’T I HAVE RED IN MEDIUM!!!!!” Ummmm… Because it’s not available.

  6. I never left the computer since the first Nexus leak…. 0__o

    1. #foreveralone

      :-P

  7. Love the new listing.. much more purchase-friendly.

  8. My gut feeling in this whole thing is simply; Google knows how screwed up things were last year, and all these leaks, and product being mobilized is just Google setting up to provide the best possible availability they can at launch. I’m thinking that the day, whenever it is, that Google announces the N5 we’ll all be able to have a device in our hands within days through a few channels and most* carriers. For better or worse this is approaching iDevice level anticipation and why shouldn’t a Nexus receive the same treatment.

    1. Exactly my thoughts.

  9. Looks like they didn’t bother to update the Nexus 10 page just yet. Perhaps we’ll see a new Nexus 10 announced too. Weird how we’ve seen heaps of nexus 5 leaks, but very very little nexus 10 leaks…

  10. I am hoping that the nexus 5 will be available for verizon if so I am definetily switching from my S4 to this. Not that the S4 is bad or anything I just prefer stock android with on screen nav buttons and IMO the nexus 5 looks a little nicer. Odds are though this will be another great phone not available on Verizon. I would even switch from my S4 to the nexus 4 if I could just to pocket some extra cash while still being happy with my phone.

    1. I’m still on Verizon with a GNex, so for me you could repeat everything you just said except supplant S4 with Galaxy Nexus.

EDIT: Before anybody calls me out…yes I know the GNex is on stock too. You know what I meant people.

  11. Google announced kit Kat 2 months ago. That’s depressing.

  12. Yes!!! Nexus 5 for Verizon!!!

  13. 3~5pm release today 31st oct GMT time.
    Look out folks! UK buyers

    1. Does Google have any event plan for today?

      1. lol it was just damn wishful thinking

  14. Do we get the Nexus 4 back ?
