Best Buy already has the new Nexus 7 available for pre-order

Whether it’s a mistake, officially sanctioned by Google, or Best Buy’s just going with a “YOLO” attitude on this one, the company has put up a device for pre-order ahead of its official announcement. That’s right — you can now pre-order the new Nexus 7 in either 16GB or 32GB flavor for $230 and $270, respectively.

With that, we finally get our first official look at the device’s specs. It’s not like we haven’t had a clue what to expect well ahead of time, but it’s nice to get some confirmation. In case you don’t remember, the Nexus 7 will have the following:

  • 7-inch 1920 x 1200 display
  • 2GB DDR3LM RAM
  • 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro 8064
  • 5.0MP camera on the rear
  • 1.2MP camera on the front
  • WiFi N
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • aGPS
  • microUSB 2.0 port

The device also comes with Android 4.3 out of the box, something we expect to learn more about later today when Google holds its event in the San Francisco Bay Area. We’ll have a foot soldier on the ground to cover the event live, so once we get our hands on it we’ll be sure to deliver our first impressions and hands-on right to you.

Of course, Google’s event — which kicks off at 9am pacific — is being streamed live, so be sure to take your break and set your alarms to get a first-hand account of what’s being announced for yourself. Are you going to pre-order it before we see how this thing performs in motion?

  1. Live at 9AM PST, not 11. Hence “Breakfast”.

  2. Do you guys think they’ll announce an Lte version? I don’t want to pre order this if Lte version is a possibility.

    1. I think so, but we’ll just have to wait until noon to find out for certain.

    2. An LTE version went through the FCC for certification, so we know it’s coming. It’s just a matter of when it’s coming.

  3. Where are the POGO Pins at??? I guess the old dock is useless with the update.

  4. I have no legitmate need for this… Yet I find myself reaching for my wallet anyway… This looks amazing.

    1. I feel you on that point. I have a nexus 7 that is perfectly fine, but I have the urge to buy this.

      1. just sold my current nexus 7 today :D
let’s hope that they get them shipped quickly!

  5. So are these the WiFi Versions of the Nexus 7?

  6. The $30 increase in price covers the manufacturing cost of the top and bottom bezel.

    1. This.

      1. Is Sparta!!!

    2. But HODOR has large hands! HODOOORRR!!!

  7. I just might walk in the day it is released and pick up a 32GB if they’re available. I learned my lesson last year about pre-ordering.

    1. Yep, same here. If they carry the 16GB in store, I’ll probably walk in 2 weeks after release and just buy it there. No need to pay for shipping and have to wait for 2+ days when I could just walk in, pay tax, and walk out same day.

      1. Sometimes I would rather wait for a few days and pay for shipping when it’s tax free.

  8. Anyone notice that the links to Best Buy above work. But if you go to the Best Buy home page and search for the Nexus 7 you get nothing?

  9. So much buzz around the Nexus 7 but hardly a peep around the Nexus 10. I know I wasn’t the only one looking forward to the refresh.

    1. 1: The N7 is much more popular
2: The N7 is much more important
3: The OG N7 is much older than the N10 => Getting refreshed first

    2. The N10 is only 8 months old.

      1. That is something I clearly forgot about.

  10. I just looked. For me it’s saying “coming soon” instead of pre order now.

  11. Bought the first a month ago. I’ll get this one next year. Then the next one after that lol

  12. I’m content with last year’s N7. I actually like the old N7’s form factor a bit more, and I even like that it DOESNT have a camera lens on the back that I have to worry about smudging & scratching.

  13. I hope someone can show the power of that Nexus 7 rear camera. The iPad’s 5 MP sensor is not crappy at all.

  14. does it support Miracast Wireless Display?
