Facebook update brings voice messaging – Messenger app no longer necessary

19

The Facebook app was updated today in the Play Store. The update brings about nice little enhancements like faster image loading, but the biggest change comes with the ability to send voice messages to friends. If this sounds familiar that’s because the Messenger companion app added this functionality earlier this month, but now it’s no longer required if you want to send voice messages but hate having to download anything extra. Cool deal.

Hopefully once Facebook rolls out voice calling, this will also come to the stock Facebook app as well, and not be exclusive to Messenger. This latest update has us hopeful.

  1. Does anybody care about Facebook any more?

    1. My grandma, mom, and sister do. O_o

      1. Get ’em on Google+…

        1. They wont do it cuz all their moms, sisters, and grandmas are on Facebook :/

        2. same kind of social network, you share, post, and comments….

    2. 1 billion people active users, myself included, apparently do.

      1. yeah right at 1billion active

    3. go back to your G+, which 99% same as fb…

  2. Too bad the facebook app is such a resource hog. 5 processes and 100mb of ram just for facebook? No thanks I’ll stick to the webpage, email notifications, and messenger.

    1. photo stalker… log out and log back in once in a blue moon and it won’t take hardly any data.

      1. who said anything about data? I complained about how much ram it uses.

    2. Something that annoys the sh** out of me is how it keeps asking me to search my phone contacts from friends, at least 5x a day – HELL NO, YOU’RE NOT HAVING ACCESS TO MY CONTACTS, GIVEN YOUR RECORD OF DELETING EMAIL ADDRESSES FROM PEOPLE’S PHONES!

      1. *for friends

  3. just in case I want to leave someone a voice mail… instead of calling them and leaving them a voice mail…

what they should do is bring back the option to log out of messenger…

  4. If you’re worried about 100mb of ram for an app you need a new phone.

    1. That’s not the point, the point is that the app is not well optimized

    2. Not really. A latest top of the line smartphone should NOT be required to access a poxy social networking site as popular as Facebook.

  5. Thanks for adding your thoughts and for your kind words. socialbakers, hootsuite and socialkik are great sites for social media where you can increase to your followers and fans.

  6. Nice!!!
