Vodafone Australia gives July 19 date for Nexus S Jelly Bean update

5

At Google I/O, Android 4.1 was said to be headed to three devices this month: the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S, and Motorola XOOM. Unlocked GSM Galaxy Nexus handsets have already been seeing the update, while there are rumblings of the new software for the XOOM, but what of the Nexus S? According to Vodafone Australia, that handset, too, will soon have its day in the sun. The carrier has gone so far as to provide a date of delivery of 1PM AEST on July 19th for the update on Google and Samsung’s Nexus S.

At the same time, the update to Jelly Bean for the carrier’s Galaxy Nexus is said to still be in testing, which is a bit odd when considering all things. Google hasn’t provided their own official timeline for the release of Android 4.1 for the Nexus S other than promising a release sometime this month, and it’s hard to say if the July 19th date will prove true outside of Australia. Luckily the wait won’t be too long before we find out.

  1. And this is the reason why my next device will be a nexus, you can’t beat timely updates + pure google. What better example that a phone that’s over a year old getting the update first before phones that just came out ;)

    1. and you can’t beat the dev support, a lot of Nexus S’ers have been running pretty stable builds of JB for a while now, myself included ;-)
