Nexus 7 Android 4.1.1 Update Didn’t Dumb Down Search – Remains Robust As Ever

16

The Nexus 7 is now receiving it’s 2nd OTA update since it was given out to Google I/O attendees. This new update weighs in at light 12.6MB, and takes the original build number from JRN84D to the newer JRO036 — aka Android 4.1.1. In a peculiar twist, the update “upgraded” a total of 37 apps but seemingly hasn’t — that’s right, has not — dumbed down the search like we assumed (see pic below). Interesting, Google.

That’s not to say the device wont receive a another special, Search dumbing update in the future. In fact, we’re betting on it. Cheers.

  3. what’s the changelog for 4.1.1 ?

  4. But please, could you post a picture with both local and remote results on the same page?
I don’t think that this one shows an infringing behavior of the search app, does it?

    1. Added another image for ya :)

      1. Perfect! Thanks.
I hope that it will remain as is, even if it’s not crucial.

  5. The Nexus 7 didn’t get banned, so why would they dumb down search on it? Only the Galaxy Nexus has been ruled in violation so far, and that’s only preliminary, so any other device is fine for right now.

    1. The dumbed down search is coming to the Galaxy S3 as well, even though it wasn’t banned either. We can only expect it will come to more ICS/Jelly Bean devices to avoid injunctions..

      1. Out of curiosity (I don’t remember) was the infringement allegation against phones only?

  6. what about for the galaxy nexus did they dumb it down ?

  7. I doubt it will get the dumbed down update. ASUS is not on Apples Hit list yet. Samsung is. Duh

  8. Someone should post a video with the current build of Google Search… I wanna see what actually changed from the last build and to see if its actually dumbed down by a lot

  9. They should be trying to invalidate the BS Apple patent, not “dumb down” their software to avoid it.

  10. We don’t know anything about what Google had planned to do to address the injunction. They may have found a clever way to work around something specific in the patent without dumping the unified local/web search functionality completely.

  11. It’s Samsung being sued, not Google or Asus, isn’t it? Shouldn’t that protect the Nexus 7?

    1. Like death, Apple’s legal team comes to us all….
