SwiftKey 3 looks to make spacebar a thing of the past with launch of new beta

33

A new beta of SwiftKey 3 is available in beta for members of the keyboard software’s VIP program. In its latest incarnation, the app looks to make the spacebar obsolete with a new feature called Smart Space. Smart Space eliminates “miss-typed or omitted spaces across whole phrases” so you don’t have to. It’s part of what SwiftKey is touting as the best of the best when it comes to auto-correction. Add it to SwiftKey’s brilliant text prediction and you get one powerful little text entry tool.

SwiftKey 3 also does some UI tweaking, providing a larger spacebar for those that don’t trust the keyboard to do the dirt work for them. New language support includes Korean, Estonian, Farsi, Icelandic, Latvian, Lithuanian, and Serbian. The bad news is that the update is currently only available to the 30,000 or so members currently signed up for SwiftKey’s VIP program, as mentioned before. The good news is that SwiftKey is currently accepting new registrations (if you can get the site to load).

Next Generation Auto-Correct; SwiftKey 3 Beta Launches

A major leap forward in touchscreen typing

Beta release available to SwiftKey VIPs at http://vip.swiftkey.net

LONDON, April 4, 2012: SwiftKey 3, the latest-generation of the award winning keyboard app for Android devices, is now available as a free beta release to SwiftKey’s passionate community of over 30,000 VIP users.

SwiftKey (http://www.swiftkey.net), which recently won the Most Innovative App at the Global Mobile Awards in Barcelona, has packed the latest release full of fantastic new features and updates, including:

Smart Space – a major leap forward in auto-correction technology, Smart Space adds to SwiftKey’s already cutting edge correction by detecting miss-typed or omitted spaces across whole phrases of poorly typed text in real-time. SwiftKey now offers the most accurate and complete auto-correction available on a smartphone or tablet.

Two new themes – a new theme, ‘Cobalt’, to match SwiftKey’s new look and feel, and an Ice Cream Sandwich-styled ‘Holo’ theme, as voted for by SwiftKey’s VIP community.

An enhanced UI – a much larger space bar and smart punctuation key help improve accuracy and make it quick and easy to access common punctuation.

Additional languages – SwiftKey 3 now offers support for an additional seven languages, bringing the total up to 42. The new languages are Korean, Estonian, Farsi, Icelandic, Latvian, Lithuanian and Serbian.

New punctuation functionality – intelligent, language-specific punctuation handling (for example, spaces between words and certain symbols in French, such as ‘Bonjour !’).

In addition to these key updates, SwiftKey 3 includes core improvements such as backup of learned language data and improved options for users to customize auto-correction features.

This SwiftKey 3 Beta is only available through the SwiftKey VIP community, which new members are welcome to join now for a limited time only athttp://vip.swiftkey.net. SwiftKey’s development team will be working closely with the community to gather feedback and make improvements.

  1. Just went to log in and it looks like the forums are down :(

    1. Yup… Looks that way

  2. the best keyboard just got better. love swiftkey, 1 more reason to stick with android.

  3. swiftkey 3? What happened to swiftkey X?

Anyway, looks great, can;t wait to get my hands on it!

    1. swiftkey X = swiftkey 2.

      1. So does this mean, that swiftkey X will get an update to 3 or do I need a new app? Whats up with the X anyway?

        1. because it is cool with a X haha. dont worry, it will get update to 3 when it released. just like before.

          1. Okay thanks.

I wonder why they can;t just call it:
            Swiftkey X version 3 or
            Swiftkey X 3.0 or
            Swiftkey X update 3
Or something that at least in some way includes the X

  4. The ICS keyboard on my AOSP rom does this if I hit the B or V instead of the space.

    1. that would be more useful to me. I don;t forget spaces, but I do accidentely press the b a lot instead of a space

      1. I did take about a dozen times of me doing that before it started changing them to spaces, and so far it seems to only do it with two words and not three or more.  But its pretty awesome because I do make that mistake a lot.

        1. awee that’s too bad, still nice feature eventually!

  5. Can’t wait to try this, if I can ever download it.

  6. Yeah, I cant seem to download this. Forums are down I guess… :( It would be.

  7. Admittedly, I’ll be the only person here excited about this particular feature, but, hooray for Icelandic support! No more switching keyboards to SlideIT just to send the occasional message.

  8. I love SwiftKey (it’s much more pleasant typing on my Android phone than on my iPad–yes I straddle both worlds!) but I am skeptical about it knowing when to put in spaces.

  9. I’ve been waiting for this!  I type “b” instead of a space pretty often. The default keyboard in ICS corrects this for me so I’ve switched until SwiftKey 3.

  10. If you follow swiftkey on twitter they released an alternate website to get the apk from

    1. Which is what I posted just above you. :)

  11. Get the SwiftKey 3 Beta APK temporarily HERE while our VIP community is down: http://bit.ly/HKAPLw – but please come back to give feedback!
    From my Twitter account.

  12. This keyboard is beyonD incredible. HOW DOES IT KNOW!?!?!?!?

  13. The two big features they tout are both already in the ICS keyboard: Smart Space and Hold and drag on period to punctuate.

  14. the smart spacing is one sweet function. it’s really handy when android sudden lag or didnt tap space bar.

  15. How do you install the .zip? Do I use clockwork?

  16. Every time they announce a new version its impossible to get into their website. You would think they would have  fixed this by now.

  17. Tried Swiftkey, but I prefer Swype.
The latest Swype with Dragon Dictation is just awesome.
I tried both and I am faster with swype. Probably partially because I’m used to it.

  18. So they finally decided to start ripping of some of the good features off “Any Soft Keyboard”.. The app has indeed a great prediction capability, but sadly is a horrible memory hog :(

  19. Nice to see some better themes at last!

But why do they make the height of the predictions buttons so big? Also the bottom row of buttons could be shorter, added together you just lose too much screen space.

Also the Facebook learning thing isn’t working in the beta and overall it seems slightly more laggy compared to Swiftkey X

  20. Until swiftkey can integrate the ICS voice to text feature I wont be able to stick with their keyboard.  It’s unfortunate since I do love swiftkey, but I use the ICS voice to text enough that not having it becomes an issue.

  21. Aweome new themes!! Love the bigger keyboard!! F$%(#*@ love swiftkey!

  22. YES!! My life has been saved!! I thought I was doomed to always typing “b” and “v” instead of space. It drove me insane when I would just be typing, then slightly glance up and see, “I’mbonbmyv way”. Then it get’s even worse since that horrible misspelling of “I’m on my way” get’s saved into my dictionary. -_-

    I shall await for this.
Oh, and the ICS keyboard slightly fixed my issue, but I have it bad. Another reason why I’m waiting for a successor to the G2. Until then, Epic 4G Touch.
