Verizon’s 4G Outage Issues Resolved

34

And the short saga comes to a close. Verizon’s just informed everyone that the 4G network outage that occurred earlier this morning has been resolved. They did not give a detailed explanation as to what caused the outage, as usual, but they did acknowledge which consumer may have been affected. I and many others have been back on 4G uninterrupted for a couple of hours now and everyone should be good to go. Take a look at Verizon’s short statement sent to us below.

“Verizon Wireless 4G LTE service is returning to normal this morning after company engineers worked to resolve an issue with the 4G network during the early morning hours today. Throughout this time, 4G LTE customers were able to make voice calls and send and receive text messages. The 3G data network operated normally.”

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Mine just turned back on in Austin, TX.

  2. Nope, still on 3G on my Nexus, or that it’s normal reception problem :-(

  3. I have better 4g signal on my galaxy nexus now then before the outage here in Iowa. Maybe the outage was to fix it.

    1. Taking down the nations 4g to fix reception in Iowa?  Doubt it…

  4. There was definitely no 3g or 4g in Phoenix since this morning. There is spotty 3g now. I think they prematurely sent this message out.

  5. just in time for me to active my GN haha

  6. Still not getting 4G in Tulsa, OK

    1. try restarting your phone.

  7. Nope, it’s definitely not resolved. 3g & 4g is not working in Boston.

    1. my 3g service is fine in boston.

      1. I stand corrected. I rebooted my phone and now 4g is back.

        1. Guess who’s back
          Back again
          4G’s back

  8. No, the 3G network did not operate normally.  My G-Nex had no mobile data whatsoever late last night, no 3G, no 1X, no nothing.  Could only make phone calls.  However, all was well this morning by 9 AM, when I woke up.

    1. It doesn’t matter if the phone is 4G, all 4G phones authenticate for data using their 4G sim for 4G,3G or even 2G, through the same authorization system that LTE uses. So the 3G network was still up and solid for 3G only devices

      1. Ah, makes sense.  Unfortunately, my phone has continued to lose its data connection throughout the day today.  In fact, it’s gone again right now.  I got it back once earlier this afternoon, but it didn’t last long.  Not sure what the issue is here.

  9. 3g was definitely NOT working during the outage.

    1. If I read a recent article correctly, Verizon 4g users authenticate (on both 3g and 4g) through a different system than 3g only users.  My guess what this authentication system was down.  Just a guess?

  10. This is twice in the last 2 weeks. Reliable my ass.

  11. The 3G network did NOT continue to operate normally. I had two handsets in the car with me as I traveled from Orlando to Miami this morning and NEITHER had any data reception, LTE OR 3G… Not even a 1X.

  12. Anyone else notice this has happened twice now right before a new 4G phone is to be released? Originally, it was the SGN which was rumored to release the day after the last outage. And now today when the rumored release of the Droid 4 is tomorrow. Anyone else find that interesting?

    1. It also happened with the Thunderbolt and Charge. Odd indeed.

  13. VZW is also having issues with activations. I just bought a new phone (Stratosphere) from BB and it was not activating. VZW customer service indicated that they are experiencing an activation delay, which could cause delays in activation up to 24 hours (but hopefully much less).

  14. And 4G is down in Knoxville, TN as everyone else goes hot again, and when everyone was down, we were running still. Wtf….

  15. 3G did not work on 4G phones, but it did work for 3G-only phones. This is why 3G didn’t work on my Stratosphere or Galaxy Nexus, but the Droid 2 and Droid 1 were just fine.

3G for a 4G phone authenticates with the same system that a 4G does, and its this network that is always going down. 3G only phones still use the old EVDO authentication system so they work fine.

    1. 3G worked on mine until LTE was back up and running. If you’re having issues in the future, try using LTE OnOff, LTE Switch, airplane mode on then off, or just plain rebooting the phone. My Thunderbolt went automatically to 3G without using any of those methods, so it isn’t “all LTE phones”.

  16. Neither 3g or 4g worked in sacramento this morning. No data all morning. 4g back on now. Bionic still goes to black screen too. Thanks Verizon for the great service.

  17. Mine went off last night, still no LTE in Dickson, Tn, as of 1PM 21 Dec

  18. Yeah, try installing the 4.0.3 radios and 4 minutes later VZW has a major outage. I almost swallowed my tongue thinking WTF did I do. This morning .. 3 bars 4G, 15 points better in dBm and downloads are MUCH faster with the new radios. SO I guess it was a good thing I flashed them, eh? :)

  19. Damn… not even an apology for the outage?  They’re acting like ppl were bitchin’ for no reason.  We PAY for this service, we don’t care if we were still able to recieve texts or make calls.  We want our data up and running at ALL times. Effin pricks… SMH…

  20. 3g only in Omaha its 2:00pm and no 4g yet

  21. I live in a 3G area, I got a 4G thunderbolt anticipating 4G being rolled out here, one day lol, but the strange thing I notice is that after a 4G outage my thunderbolt will stay on ev-do rev A. for like a day instead of going back to ehrpd, not that it matters it’s basically the same thing, minus the handovers to a 4G area, but still it’s odd.

  22. no 4G and SIM card errors here in PHX, AZ on the RAZR

  23. I’m sure it will be blamed internally on Push-To-Talk…

  24. Still not working in Bakersfield CA
