T-Mobile G2x Gingerbread OTA Update Resumes

19

After a not-so-smooth attempt at rolling out Android 2.3 Gingerbread for T-Mobile G2x users, experience-breaking bugs ran rampant throughout users’ phones prompting T-Mobile and LG to suspend updates. It took quite a while for them to get things ironed out, actually, as I almost forgot that the T-Mobile G2x even exists. In any case, the Gingerbread rollout is back on for those who are sick of frozen treats. Alongside Gingerbread, you’re also apparently getting improved battery life for your troubles. Yay! Get to the link ahead for the full instructions from LG. [LG via Droid Dog]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. What a joke…When you can’t even get stock updates right you don’t deserve to be in the game…Thank goodness most of the g2x buyers were android savvy and probably have had gingerbread roms installed since shortly after launch.

    1. I just returned it and got my money back. Software issues can be fixed, but the damn thing was put together poorly. I went through 22 of them, all of them had display defects.

      1. Yeah I have a buddy who has had several issues with build quality as well.

  2. I agree with u drhotmann
I cant imagine how long the mt4g will take

  3. would this be the 2.3.4 gingerbread? or is this the same 2.3.3
also if anyone tries it out. is the LG Cam back?

    1. Its the same, they’re just re-releasing an old update that they couldn’t get right the first time.

  4. My G2x has been rocking Cm7 for awhile now works great.

  5. How about they just continue rolling out ICS for us instead…

    1. This time next year… maybe.

  6. My wife has this phone i just updated it manually over a month ago good phone lots of dev support

  7. I received the update the first time they started rolling it out and same shit still happens every other day.

Phone does wake up when power button is pressed.
    Phone Restarts randomly
    Phone Shuts off randomly

It happens enough times during the week that you either have to buy another phone or go to a therapist.

Great hardware and it’s a shame to see a vanilla android phone to have this many issues upon lunch and still 6 months after.

Shitty support page, no accessories, drivers needed to even use the phone’s SD Card as a flash storage via USB.

And here they are promising Ice Cream update? Sigh…  probably in 2 years that it.

    1. Yea I had to laugh when LG released that announcment, ICS, keep dreaming. They still refuse to respond to why every G2x’s display isn’t glued together right letting light bleed in at odd spots. I’ve made a firm decision never to buy another LG product, they don’t QA.

  8. how many android phones have had issues with updates? alot of them. deal with it

    1. What a pointless comment.

  9. After 3 replacements, T-Mobile hooked me up with a HTC Sensation. Couldn’t be happier.

  10. Ya xda has much g2x support rocking eagles blood 2.3.7 myself sweet battery life no issues at all.

  11. Ouch that forgotten comment really hurts. How about you show us some love or at least feel sorry for us!!!

  12. for some reason my battery is way worse after updating to gingerbread. i could make it thru a whole day before on a single charge with moderate use, but now i have to charge it literally three times a day with little to no use. it sucks…
