Sony Ericsson Xperia Device Owners Get 50GB of Free Storage at Box.Net

14

Box.Net is quickly coming up to challenge DropBox and they’re making some partnerships of their own. Sony Ericsson and Box.Net have teamed up to offer 50GB of free storage for any Sony Ericsson Xperia user (PLAY, Arc, Arc S, Mini, Pro -you name it). That’s an eye-popper for sure and it has me wishing I owned an SE phone now. Users have until December 31st to take advantage, but all you have to do is download the app and create an account on your Sony Ericsson device. From there, you’ll have all that storage for life. Not bad at all. [via Unwired View]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. We get 50GB of free space? You can do a lot with that. Maybe I should convert to Ericsson Xperia!

    1. Come on over!  I just got my Xperia Pro (not mini pro) a week or two ago and yeah, it doesn’t have a dual core, but I’m loving it so far.

There are also rumors that all 2011 Xperia devices may be getting ICS in early January (though another source said March) and I think it’s awesome that Sony actively supports custom rom devs like Cyanogenmod.

  2. the offer is also available if you sign up thru an iphone or ipad. Used my brothers iphone to get the free 50gb awhile back. =P
You dont have to own the device to get the 50gb. you just need to sign up thru the device. atleast with the ipad/phone. Just borrow someones iphone/ipad, sign up n your good to go.

I guess you can just login into your account thru the device if its an xperia to activate the offer. Thats what it says here atleast. i dunno

  3. Box does not support subfolders and subdirectories: you must drag your 1000’s of files into it. DUMB!

    1. Box does support sub folders and sub-dir. Just click the arrow that appears on the upload button when you hover over it, choose “Bulk Upload” and choose the folders you want to upload.

  4. Not working for me. Logged into the app on my Play and I only have 5GB

    1. You installed the wrong app. Here’s the proper market link: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.box.android
UPDATE: Actually, you’re right, I too only got 5Gb. Is it because I’m in Canada? Or because I access it through WiFi? My old SIM got deactivated when I switched to RAZR with microSIM. Or because it was X10? Anyways, the ad didn’t work for me either.

      1. are either of you running a custom rom or using a modified build.prop perhaps? or maybe it just takes awhile to go thru.

Was instantaneous when I signed up thru an iDevice tho. I dont kno…

        1. Just followed the link to the original article. The Sony deal has not been verified outside of UK. Something that Phandroid forgot to report.

          1. AHhhh, well that sucks. Well, if you still want the deal, try and borrow someones iPhone/Pad. That I know works.

I don’t know if you can just log into your account to activate the deal however. I know it works if you create an acct thru an iDevice tho.

  5. Signed up from my Xperia Play (no custom ROM) on Verizon. No go on the 50g here either. Back to DropBox for me.

    1. Likewise for my Verizon Xperia Play.

  6. It’s going to take a lot for me to switch from Dropbox. I’ve got all my folders setup, devices linked, and all my shared folders going. While I only have ~5GB on DB, there is not much else that I need in the cloud. DL speeds are still not great enough that I can upload audio & video projects into the cloud and work from different devices as soon as I pull them up.

  7. Not convinced on cloud storage for smartphones.  Maybe as backup but no way for a primary storage site.
