Looks like Google TV hasn’t been faring too well for Sony and as a result, the company has reduced the price of their current Google TV integrated HD televisions. We pretty much all saw this coming. Following in Logitech’s footsteps who recently dropped the price of their Google TV set-top boxes to a paltry $99, Sony’s new prices are as follows:
24″: Was $600. Now $295
32″: Was $800. Now $498
40″: Was $1000. Now $723
46″: Was $1400. Now $961
Sony did make mention that the reason for the price drop wasn’t because of newer/better ones coming soon, but because well – these were probably too expensive to begin with. Hopefully this isn’t a sign that Google TV is nearing its end. Google TV is still a great concept and with Ice Cream Sandwich just right around the corner, hopefully the new version of Android will breathe new life into Google TV.

The specs (60Hz) on these things just weren’t that great to attract anyone that might be interested in Google TV features.
60Hz refresh rates definitely aren’t a deal breaker for me. You also may want to research a little bit more before jumping to conclusions based on that alone.
So many TV manufacturers make it look like if it doesn’t have a 120Hz refresh rate it’s a piece of crap.

It’s all a matter of personal preference, but for most of us it may seem to look weird at a higher rate like 120 Hz or 240 Hz.

What features would I be missing out on if I live in Canada and had Google TV?
I almost got one of these but the specs on the tv itself just want that great compared to everything else out there. I really wanted one but the specs just didn’t meet the price point.
yeh I want too know that too. How does Google TV function outside of the US?
With prices this low I think it’s finally time to buy one.
All I can say from personal experience is that you can’t go wrong buying yesterday’s (literally) technology at cut-throat prices. It’s like buying a late-model used car instead of a new one–almost a no-brainer.
Just bought a 32″ open box one at Tiger Direct for only $450. I’m totally psyched!!! Can’t wait for it to arrive.
