The Walkman Blog reports that Sony’s best noise cancelling headphones is about to get an update. The Sony WH-1000XM6 was recently spotted at the FCC, bringing it one step closer to launch. The FCC listing does not reveal the headphones’ full specs, but it provides us with some clues on the possible changes.

For starters, the design in the document hints at detachable earpads. Sony has a guide on how to remove and replace the earpads in the WH-1000XM5 (which you can check out here), but hopefully, its successor will have an easier mechanism. The WH-1000XM6 comes with Bluetooth 5.3, which means LE Audio support, an upgrade over its predecessor’s Bluetooth 5.2.

Another thing worth noting is that the battery rating is 3.8V, similar to the current model. However, this doesn’t mean that the battery capacity is the same. Sony has steadily increased battery size over the past few generations. There is a chance the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones could see a similar upgrade.

We still don’t have a specific release date yet. The FCC document has a short-term confidentiality that ends on the 22nd of July, 2025. Hopefully, Sony will announce the headphones before then. That said, if you need a top-tier noise-cancelling headset today, the Sony WH-1000XM5 remains an excellent choice. It offers premium sound quality, adaptive noise cancellation, and a comfortable design—making it one of the best wireless headphones on the market right now.
