Google Videos Almost Ready to Make the Leap to Smartphones

1

The service initially known as Google Movies was announced at Google I/O with an accompanying app making its way to the Motorola XOOM as part of the Android 3.1 update. Since then, the app and its ability to stream movie rentals from the Android Market has received a name change, but hasn’t quite made it to other devices. We say ‘quite’ because Google Videos has been popping in and out of the Android Market over the past few days without word of an official release. Those that have managed to download Videos have found that it isn’t working for smartphones just yet, but it would appear that Google is prepping the app for just that. Now we can only hope that when it does launch to a broader audience it won’t be limited to as few handsets as competitors Netflix and Hulu.
