A leaked build of Gingerbread for the HTC Droid Incredible 2 has reached the developer underground and is ready for installation on non-rooted devices. That is correct, sir. This leaked RUU file presents one of the rare instances where pre-release software is better suited for installation on root-free Android handsets than on devices modified from their stock software. The flashable update isn’t compatible with currently rooted Droid Incredible 2 handsets. A pre-rooted version of the software exists but is of little value to Incredible 2 users until the AlphaRevX team goes public with their root method.
A word of warning: if you are free of root or don’t mind sacrificing root access in order to install this early build of Gingerbread, you may block your phone from receiving future official updates and you will also wipe all data from your phone. BGR has more info on the new Nexus phone, and I’m suggesting that Kevin should write about it. After all, this is Phandroid, and I shouldn’t see this article on all my other favorite tech forums before I see it on Phandroid.
Honestly Kevin, what the hell are you talking about? Leaked RUUs appear on XDA multiple times every day (each forum has a shipped/stock ROMs collection) and unless you have radio S-OFF, you are *always* advised against flashing them if you care about having root in the future.
