Winamp for Android Gets a Big v1.1 Update

24

The folks at Nullsoft (AOL?) have just announced version 1.1 of their Android application, bringing with it some pretty cool features if I do say so myself. (And I do, of course.) Highlights certainly include AOL’s full CD listening party for new release albums, a feature that’ll allow you to stream a new album from start to finish. Other cool changes include implementation of Android’s built-in “listen to” command, redesigns of the now playing screen and home screen, and more. Take a look at the full list of changes below.

Winamp for Android now features key AOL Music discovery franchises including free music downloads (Spinner’s MP3 of the Day) and full album streaming of new releases through AOL Music’s Full CD Listening Party (CDLP). Other notable new features include:

• Improved SHOUTcast & streaming playback through a new native media engine
• Ability to add MP3 of the Day and CDLP tracks to play queue
• Now Playing & Home screen redesign
• Browse by genre
• Album art gesturing for track change
• Integration with Android “Listen to” voice actions
• Available in 14 languages

Go ahead and find the new upgrade as a free download in the Android market.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. too bad their permissions are unnecessary.

    1. Agreed, I was going to download it some time ago but stoked when I saw the permissions. There is no way a responsible person would accept them.

      1. there is a reason for each of those permissions, phone state and identity allows the music to pause when youre in a call and automatically resume when you end it. wifi for syncing, much of it makes sense. the only one i dont know is the “read sensitive log data” but i bet its something to do with the database. i would imagine the pc version to be much more powerful, so if you’re worried about the permissions on android then i wonder what havoc it could wreak on your PC… :P its winamp, the only bullshit i would be worried about is AOL bloat/crapware

        1. There is no bloatware in Winamp.  It’s just as lean as its Windows version.   Must be a Mac fangirl with that name… go complain in the censored apple forums about your bloated iTune$.

          1. Actually like bigmacs
but i like your hostility to apple :)
            and i love winamp

      2. I’m reasonable and accepted them.

  2. …..but, does it still kick the lama’s ass?

    1. Animal abuse…

    2. It never did, it whipped it.

    3. I think you mean “llamas”

      Nobody kicks MY ass!

      1. no he means llama’s or llamas’ or llamas’s, if you’re going to be pedantic, at least do it right

  3. Still can’t edit track ID’s.. weak

  4. I wonder if this should have been re-branded as DroidAmp. I hate being confused, and it happens far too easily to me.

  5. Oooooh, did they make it not suck?

  6. I’m totally happy with how the app performs, but I would love to see the signature WinAmp EQ. C’mon guys, everyone is asking for it!

  7. Anyone with an Atrix able to get shoutcast to work?

  8. For those that aren’t the biggest fans of Winamp, what 3rd party music player would you recommend?

I recently went from a Samsung to a Motorola, and I can’t stand Motorola’s stock music player.

What 3rd party one’s do you guys like?…  TIA! :)

    1. Cubed and poweramp :)

      1. powercrap blows.  Stick with winamp or use Amazon cloud player.

        1. So it just blows?  No data to back that statement up?  Do tell, why does the market’s leading music player “blow?”

    2. Meridian. Works well and haven’t had any problems with it (on my Droid). I’d consider Winamp for integrated Shoutcast streaming, tho.

  9. Winamp pwns. I’ll be sure to check this out, thanks for post.

  10. Nice site for pirating, douche.
    (flagged)

  11. can thet bring good UI(colour management and nice looking icons) in the applications and beauty of applications of apple iOS
