SportsTap Acquired By Score Mobile

5

My personal favorite app for followings sports scores and happenings of my favorite teams – SportsTap – has been acquired by Score Media, the makers of Score Mobile. With a minimalistic approach, SportsTap got you the information you wanted reliably and quickly, which I appreciated, leaving the highlights and high def media to the more able competition.

At first, I was a bit worried Score would try to completely absorb SportsTap, taking the competitor off the market and welcoming the user base to Score Mobile. It seems that is not the case: SportsTap will operate independently of Score. Sigh of relief. I’m hoping that Score Media might pump some resources into SportsTap to continually improve the experience but I’d recommend one major thing: don’t get complicated – SportsTap is successful because it’s simple!

According to their numbers, Score and SportsTap would enjoy a combined #3 ranking in app viewership behind only ESPN and Yahoo and ahead of huge networks like FOX and CBS.

  1. Ugh. Scoremobile isn’t very good and has no legit widget. I don’t like this regardless.

    1. scoremobile has the best widget.. read below

  2. I’ve tried scoremobile, espn and of course sportstap. Sportstap always comes out on top for me. The widget feature I really like is being able to use the arrows up and down to see previous games played and future games. None of the others do that. I also think the the overall experience is better as well. Like the article says, dont pump it up to much. Sure there can be improvements but the simplicity of it along with the functionality is why I always go back to it, well I never left it.

  3. Scoremobile is the best … it’s more extensive and it has the best widget… it’s easy to navigate the widget and there’s so much info you can get from the widget alone without going into the app

  4. You think Scoremobile has the best widget? 50% of the damn thing is useless eye candy that takes up space.
