T-Mobile G2x Now Available Online

42

It’s Friday morning and that could only mean one thing this morning – the T-Mobile G2x is on sale! You can head over to T-Mobile’s website right now and order their version of the LG Optimus 2X for $199.99 after a two-year contract. (Applicable to all, mail-in rebates may apply.) The Tegra 2 device was launched at CTIA and while we heard it would be released soon after, we didn’t think it’d be so soon. Fret not, though, because it’s here and you can grab it up yourself.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to try before you buy because it won’t be available in stores until April 20th. If you’d rather wait then that’s only next Wednesday. And if you need a quick look at the device be sure to take a look-see at our hands-on footage from CTIA last month. There are also folks already sprawling the G2x section at AndroidForums.com getting ready to grab their own, but you can also take a peek inside our LG Optimus 2X section as it’s virtually the same phone except for the custom UI.

I suppose I should tell you folks about some deals, as well. Wirefly isn’t offering it as soon as T-Mobile is, but you can get it for $50 less without having to mess around with any rebates. LetsTalk is offering it for that same price. Best Buy and Amazon have not yet posted listings for the device. So what say you, Megenta fans? Is this your dream phone or are you waiting on products such as the newly-announced HTC Sensation?

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. It is a nice looking device. Had it came out a month earlier, I’d consider it but i am trying to leave Tmobile

    1. why would you do such a thing?

      1. Cuz she’s a silly lil girl.

    2. Dont be scared of ATT I spoke with TMo rep he said everything will be the same for atleast 2 years from now

  2. Great news! The phone i purchase right now however needs to be unlocked, anyone know if this will be available unlocked right now and for how much? Thanks!

  3. I’m not a huge fan of LG phones but I must say its a damn good looking phone. But the HTC Sensation gonna blow it out the water. I have a Nexus S and I must say I’m looking forward to Sense 3.0. OAN Where the hell is my 2.3.3. update for this damn reset bug? (Nexus S)

    1. Why don’t you just manually update to 2.3.3.? I heard that google stopped the OTA to fix some things. It’s really easy to do. I don’t get why so many people like to wait for things when they can manually install it.

And as far as benchmarks go the sensation doesn’t even compare to the G2X.

      1. Where did you hear that, I was wondering why me and my friend haven’t gotten 2.3.3 yet. Do you know what they were trying to fix?

        1. I heard it on XDA, I’ll see if i can find the topic and post a link.

          1. Sweet thanks

          2. After searching around forever i guess i can’t find it. Maybe i was wrong.

          3. Thats ok someone just added a link for the manual install.

      2. Where did they test the Sensation ? The Sensation has the faster dual core chips in it.

        1. The HTC Pyramid is the Sensation. http://phandroid.com/2011/03/16/benchmark-shows-htc-pyramids-dual-core-snapdragon-cant-best-tegra-2/

The software isn’t final but i can’t be too much higher than that.

    2. You haven’t gotten 2.3.3 either, I just started getting the resets about 2 weeks ago. At least it isn’t as bad as the touchscreen and 3G problems the Nexus One had.

        1. Hell yeah thanks Ansel.

  4. Why buy it online when they won’t ship it to me until tuesday at the earliest? Might as well wait till wednesday morning, wish they had next day shipping

    1. Agreed. I spoke with TMo customer care this morning and also Wirefly just now. No benefit to pre-ordering, as it won’t ship from either place *until Wednesday*. Better to take my chances at 9a on the 20th at the local TMo store.

      1. Benefit on wirefly is that its cheaper, and no tax

      2. I ordered mine online on friday and I got my tracking number in the afternoon

  5. To bad it wont let me upgrade o the g2x on the tmobile website…sigh.

  6. @Hmheuser32 If you’re with Tmobile, you can request the unlock code from them. I usually do that on all my phones.

    1. The commenting system have been updated so now you can reply directly to someone’s comment.

    2. Why would you want to buy it unlocked if you’re with t-mobile? Seems kind of pointless. Maybe the guy is with at&t and wants to buy it for use on at&t

  7. Im still waiting for d samsung galaxy s2. Jjjjjj

  8. Why are you “trying” to leave? More interesting than your posting just to post about a phone you would’ve been interested had it been released a month ago, lol!

    1. The commenting system have been updated so now you can reply directly to someone’s comment.

  9. If I am correct I think this will work for AT&T and T-mobile.

  10. I ordered mine at 530 this morning

  11. Tried to order at midnight last night – their site was screwed up and it canceled my order. Couldn’t order for 24 hours after that because I was getting “duplicate payment” errors. Called T-mobile this morning and their CS pulled some ninja moves to get it ordered. T-Mobile is constantly proving that they have the best CS in the world. Can’t wait!!!!

  12. You know the Sensation had an overclock of 1.5 ghz in the Anandtech review and the Optimus 2X had its same clock of 1.0ghz plus the LG skin. Of course the Sensation is going to get better benchies than the Optimus 2X..cmon! Now what I’d like to see is a apples to apples of both overclocked at 1.5ghz, with the Sensation with it’s Sense U.I. and also the G2X with vanilla Android. I’d bet a nipple from my chest that the G2X would still beat the Sensation!

    1. OMG..sorry everyone..im full of fail this morning! Here’s the CORRECT ARTICLE http://www.anandtech.com/show/4243/dual-core-snapdragon-gpu-performance-1-5-ghz-msm8660-adreno-220-benchmarks/2

  13. No way would I buy an LG phone ever again. I would much rather wait for the Sensation this Summer. Usually don’t care about Sense, but might keep Sense 3.0 for a while before installing CM7. I buy a phone for its hardware before I worry about the software thanks to CM and the Sensation looks freakin’ cool.

  14. the only reason they’re faster is because they’re clocked higher. i bet once we get some custom kernals and we overclock the tegra 2 they will be on par if not better then the sensation and the gs2

  15. Just placed an order trough small business channel for LG G2X for everything unlimited $69.99 a month it will come on Tue, Wed. 16. Upgraded last night around 9:30 PST off the t-mobile site. Already shipped.
