Motorola DROID X & DROID 2 Gingerbread ROMs Rooted

22

The one downside to the leaked Gingerbread update files that were put on the internet yesterday for the Motorola DROID 2 and DROID X courtesy of P3Droid, TeamBlackHat and the folks at MyDroidWorld is the fact that it wasn’t rooted. It was a small price to pay for many who just wanted to get stepped up to the latest and greatest version of Android and MOTOBLUR. We were hopeful that the builds would be rooted in no time, though, and the community delivered. We’ll opt to direct you to MyDroidWorld for the methods in case anything changes or if you need further support. The DROID X’s can be found here, while the DROID 2’s can be had here. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Cool

  2. Sweet. This is what I wanted.

  3. I had just flashed it, just minutes before they released the rooted version grrrr. Now I have to SBF…a little nervous about that.

  4. Moto beat everyone to the punch. Interesting! HTC held the title for a while.

    1. What makes it even more interesting is the locked bootloaders on those phones. Looks like it didnt stand in the way of getting Gingerbread before most other phones.

And early reports from ppl using it is its a better version of Blur, the stock launcher is better. Blur is just better overall this time. I cant wait til I get home to put the rooted version on. So glad I held off yesterday on putting the non rooted version on.

      1. Make no mistake; Blur is still buggy as ever, the screens still lag, and the overall feel of the phone still sucks and is anything BUT speedy. Motorola sucks; I’m never making the mistake of buying their product again.

        1. Well after using it for the last week, I think its an improvement.

I dont know if you used the leaked GB for the X or have played with a Bionic but the newer version of Blur is better. From the look to the feel.

So much so I’m still using the Blur launcher. That was almost unheard of with the version of Blur that came with the Droid X.

  5. Does my Droid X have to be rooted before doing this, or can I just follow the directions and have it function?

    Thanks!

  8. I have the rooted Gingerbread. Now I need to figure out how to actually apply the update.

    1. Rename file to update.zip
    2. Run Clockwork ROM Manager and use update.zip from SD card option.
    3. Hope this is correct.
