Bluetooth on NOOKcolor is Now Accessible via Hack

9

Barnes & Noble stuffed some extras inside of your NOOKcolor, but didn’t exactly want you to run wild some of it. A Bluetooth 2.1 radio is one of them, but XDA‘s never going to rest when it comes to taking control of the devices they love. A new hack wakes that slumbering Bluetooth radio up, but there are a few catches: you must be running an Android 2.2 ROM and it isn’t the cleanest of implementations… yet. But if you were already trying to turn your NOOKcolor into a viable Android tablet for everyday use, then I don’t see why you wouldn’t want to give this a shot. XDA for the details. [via SlashGear]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Actually, I suspect that this is exactly what Barnes and Noble wanted. This way they can appeal to their shoppers as a friendly e-reader with a bit of extra functionality, whilst knowing the more tech-savvy will appreciate you can hack the balls off it. Once it’s in your hands, I imagine they couldn’t care less what you do with it.

  2. Wait…
    It’s an eReader…
Why the hell does it even have a bluetooth radio?

B&N also includes mp3 player as a feature of the Nook Color. Maybe they plan on using the Bluetooth radio for Bluetooth headphones and speakers in future updates.

  4. @dethduck: audio book to bluetooth receiver/car stereo perhaps?

  5. @dethduck, because the bluetooth radio comes on the SoC they used. You think barnes and noble had their own SoC fabbed? Hell no, they bought one off the shelf and used it. Since they did not need it for their design they just ignored it.

  6. Wonder if my Moto S9’s will work with it.
I’m buying this thing right after they release the 2.2 update and I make sure that 2.2. can be rooted.

  7. Oh wow! This is totally awesome. I was wondering if XDA would be able to get that Bluetooth radio working. How could I have ever doubted them? :D

I cannot wait to root my Barnes & Noble Nook Color. This keeps getting better and better! :)

  8. I’ve been using a rooted Nookcolor for about a week now. Fantastic unit for the price.

  9. @timmyjoe42 – With ya on that. Can’t wait til they upgrade it so I can get my hands on this.
