While Gameloft seems content to hold their high-quality 3D gaming titles out of the Android Market, EA Games is jumping right in with the release of Need for Speed: Shift. Already available as an exclusive on some handsets, the action-packed racer priced at $4.99 features 20 cars to choose from, from the BMW M3 GT2 to the Lamborghini Gallardo. Eighteen tracks in three locales should offer many hours of gameplay.

EA has plans to bring more 3D titles to the market, with Madden 11 coming sometime next year at the very least. Hopefully more will follow shortly, and EA’s confidence in the Android Market may spark a change of heart from Gameloft.

  1. That’s how you roll. Take a note Gameloft!!

  2. $4.99 isnt bad it was $10.

  3. $5 inst bad…but Id prefer to get this on a tablet instead of the phone. Ill just hold off

  4. @Steven

As long as your Google account is linked to the tablet, you can buy it now and re-download once you own a tablet. Don’t let that stop you from owning it. The full game is pretty good.

  5. @Steven

Sorry, I didn’t read that it doesn’t run on the Galaxy Tab.

  6. @Lewis
I need a tablet first though! Nice to see for once that there will be good programs/games available for tablets once good ones are released! :)

  7. i have a feeling that the sales will vary between 1,000 to 5,000 unites, most paid games sell better :( which i strongly believe is due to piracy

  8. @Maj

Those numbers don’t account for Verizon customers that already own the full game. I’d bet sales are already somewhere between 1,000 and 5,000 units. If EA Mobile actually advertised Android software on their site, they’d probably sell even more!

  9. With only 15 minutes to test and 150mb to download after install, it is risky if you are not sure it will work on your phone.

  10. i dont have the new market yet though does that still mean i only have the 15 minutes

  11. Need For Speed is free on the Nokia N8 which has a 12 megapixel camera with a Carl Zeiss lens.

  12. Actually Verizon customers don’t have the full version. although it does come preloaded on some of their higher end smartphones, including my Fascinate, you only get two cars and one track with the preloaded version. I liked it so much I paid the $9.99 to upgrade to the full version. Great game & awesome graphics on my Galaxy S. I haven’t come across a racing game yet on the market that can compete with this one, and for that price all race fans should have this in their library.

  13. Just downloaded on my Verizon Droid Incredible, works great, haven’t had a chance to play too much of it though.

  14. I had the full version on my EVO for 3 months now for free too. Google is your friend people.

  15. Sims 3 is available now, too!!!

  16. @ mt3g
I have the old market still I it has been more than 15 minutes and I can still refund, so you should be good.
@ Droid 1 owners with the new market
It runs really good on my Droid 1. Although I am overclocked to 800mhz. I think it should be fine for stock clock speed though. I would definitely tell anyone to get this game. It really is amazing. Totally worth $5.

  17. The Game is pulled from the market…

  18. Failed!

  19. Sadly, this game does not work with the sprint version of the galaxy tab.

  20. this is what im talking about a game that has great gameplay and cheap love nfs :)

  21. Odd, it’s still not on the Market. Guess it’s only available for users in the US then.

@John: if you know where to look, you can get a version of NFS Shift that works for the Tab (get the “Samsung Galaxy S” version).

I dunno EA can’t get their act together and just release the versions that have been floating around on the net for months onto the Market. It’s almost as if they don’t want you to buy their product!

  22. My 3-year-old loves this game.
It is even more impressive than Asphalt 5, though maybe not as much fun.

  23. I dont see it on Market. Maybe “Need For Speed Shift” is not the right combination of words.

Or the Android Market is a fucked up piece of non usable shit.

    One of those two options.
