We tipped you guys off to a new phone being introduced in China by Samsung that has dual displays in a clamshell form factor. Though I joked about how weird this thing was, Samsung’s not joking about how powerful it is: it’s a “superphone”. Android 2.2, a 5 megapixel camera, a front-facing VGA camera, 1GHz processor, and 512MB of RAM round out the specs. I wouldn’t mind having that to play around with every now and then. Full specs ahead. (And yes: it’s as heavy as it looks.) [via Mobile-Review]

too bulky for me. as for the actual specs, they don’t seem any more impressive than the nexus S, which is to say, not much at all. dual core it, give me 1GB of ram, plenty of internal storage(without losing the SD card) then i’ll start to be impressed.
That’s cool, but I think it’d rather it be the other aspect ratio, sort of like a Nintendo DS. With this you’re basically locked into using it in portrait mode. I use both on my phone, but if I had to choose one, I think i’d choose landscape.
I would love one of these. Current smartphone (brick) form factor is retarded and we will look back in a few years and see them as equivalent to what we see the big analog/battery pack phones of the 90’s.
Can’t wait until we leave this primitive area!
Superphone how?
Too big and bulky to be taken seriously. If it was super thin, it might catch on. Brick and phone should never come to mind at the same time.
Motorola-ish?
i’d trade my DEFY in for one of these puppies.
my wife would too.
I agree with what a few others have said: The specs are good, but they’re not incredible. They’re pretty similar to the Nexus S actually.
And what about this phone sets it above other phones current and future???
You are drinking too much Samsung happy juice, Quentyn…..
Ok ok, it’s not as good as what we’re about to get in 2011, but it’s comparable to the original Nexus One, which technically isn’t even a year old yet. Why can’t it be called a superphone if the Nexus One could? (Mind you, I realize no one calls the Nexus One a superphone anymore.) :-P
Anyone else notice it’s missing the search button?
I love the way a flipphone form factor puts the speaker in my ear and the mic in my mouth so I don’t have to shout to be heard on the other end. But this new Samsung flip is still not as cool as the Fuji concept phone that flips and rotates into any orientation you might want.
@rramsdell
The Nexus One started the idea of Superphones.
Basically 1ghz, 512mb ram, hi-res screens
This falls somewhat in line.
