For hardcore mobile gamers and fans of old-school 8-bit and 16-bit action, a hardware keyboard and some slick Android emulators are a must. But if you already meet those requirements and call yourself a real gaming fanatic, the Game Gripper is essential to bringing the feel of a real old-school handheld system right to your smartphone. The folks at Game Gripper started with the Motorola Droid, and while they have released quite a few models since then, we thought it would only be right to check out one of their latest offerings in the form of the Droid 2 Game Gripper.
It does everything the original did to create an intuitive interface for gaming in a package that seems all together more solid than the original. In the case of the buttons feeling a bit stiff, the solidity may have hurt the new Game Gripper a bit, but it works no worse because of it. The button layout becomes a bit tight leaving room for those with big thumbs to mash the wrong button every once in a while, and an irregular layout due to the new Droid 2 keyboard might take a bit of getting used to. The good news is the Droid 2 Game Gripper gains an additional two buttons that make the most sense as static Start/Select buttons, freeing up extra controls for use in-game. For the price of $14.99 mobile gamers really can’t go wrong by picking one up. Check out the video for a look at the thing in action.
You suck at Sonic.
Go Game Gripper! If you have a droid, milestone or now droid2, and like games then you owe it to yourself to buy one. Playing GBA, NES, SNES emu games with one of these really does compare to the console experience.
Droid 2 Global supported?
I hope so…
I cannot wait to get one of these for my Epic 4G!!!…The only downside is that you cannot use a case and the game gripper at the same time…That’s kind of a pain but not as much of a pain as trying to play games without a game gripper I’m sure….LOL…Hopefully it goes on sale this November like their website says it should :-)
they really need to make one for the Dell Streak. I love playing the old school games already on here but to have an actual controller would be tops!!! It would really make it the perfect phone/ portable media machine since I already have movies, music and games on it.
Looking on the interwebz for one now.
#aconrad86: They put the pad over the phone’s keyboard, so when you push a button, you are pushing a key, its a shame but they need a phone with physical keyboard…
