Verizon has issued a press release announcing the availability of the LG Vortex, an entry-level Android 2.2 device. The phone will hit VZW’s shelves come November 18th and will be available at a price of of $79.99 on a two-year agreement after a $100 mail-in rebate. It’s not as free as was rumored, but there is still a chance it will be on some holiday sale or another.

The LG Vortex features a 3.2-inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and a 3.2MP camera. Standard Verizon offerings are on board including Bing services, VZ Navigator, 3G Mobile HotSpot, and Skype. Not too shabby of a price for what you get: an Android 2.2 smartphone disguised in the draping of a feature phone.

  1. Cool new software. Terrible manufacturer. I have owned 4 LG phones and each ion broke within about a year from normal wear and tear. I have had 2 Motorola’s and both have made it 1.5 years and then i sold them! L’g just are built cheaply.

  2. Never again anything from LG, still waiting for LG to push out 2.2 to the Ally as promised. If they don’t it will be the last thing made by LG Electronics I will buy, be it phones, TV’s, anything period. I can’t do business with a company that lies to its customers to sell a product.

  3. It’s nice to see that android is on many platforms now.
I also think that LG isn’t a good hardware. I prefer HTC.

  4. I loved my lg dare, after 2 years of heavy use, probably hundreds of drops, oh and no case, it still works fine and my dad’s using it now.

  5. Isn’t this device similar to the $30/free LG optimus T for t-mobile and optimus S for Sprint? I wonder why they are charging $80 for it.

  6. I agree. Neve rgo with an LG. They seem amazing out of box. wait 2 months and you’ll want to throw it against a brick wall.

  7. Surprised you guys have had problems with your LG phones. I’ve had a Dare, enV, and Vu and Shine when I was using AT&T. All those have been dropped used extensively. None of them gave me a problem. I’m betting you guys must be employed by one of LG’s competitors and are here posting crap that isn’t true.

  8. I bought this phone and it has treated me just fine. Good hardware size, runs droid apps fine and ive had no problems. Its good stuff and runs my SNES roms awesome so i got my complete collection anywhere I go. (Zelda Rocks) So go look at some other stuff now.

  9. You guys are all being babies, LG is great, and so is this phone hands down.
