VisualOn, purveyors of rich multimedia such as streaming audio and video, has joined the Open Handset Alliance with hopes to bring a deeper media experience to Android handsets starting with Gingerbread. The VisualOn Media Engine provides an “OpenMAX compliant media framework” that is optimized for hardware and software media components, and provides powerful tools for creating applications.
VisualOn’s multimedia engine is optimized for ARM-based chipsets, which will play nice with current Android handsets. Hopefully the addition to the OHA should provide Android with a boost in media offerings, with the current stock media options in need of some refinement.

Very Nice! Can’t wait to see how Devs will use this.
I want gingerbread!
More media streaming please…
Android Lacks polish on the media front. It is most obvious with local files. All though copy and paste is adequate. Something with the functionality of itunes would be appropriate for a modern smart phone. this could be accomplished by a third party via Cloud service or PC program easily or Google.
