[Update: Now It’s Official] Xperia X10 is Definitely Going to AT&T August 15th

20

We waited to report this story until we could muster up more confirmation, but that countdown (that – as of the time of this posting – has not finished counting down) on the Sony Style site will indeed be for the AT&T-bound Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. Proof? A nice product page should be enough, no?

The device will be $129.99 “with AT&T plan” which we assume comes with some sort of data requirement and a two-year contract. We’re awaiting official press details, but this is as close to a confirmation as we’ll get, for now. The X10 was launched in November 2009 as the first device that many of us considered to be “high-end” at that time.

A 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 4-inch screen with 854×480 resolution, an 8-megapixel camera, and more made up the gears that powered this phone. It launched with Android 1.6 and Sony’s custom TimeScape interface on top of it, but anything can change for this AT&T re-release (we know Sony’s hard at work on getting the device to Android 2.1, at the least).

More details as they come to light (hopefully very soon).

[Update]: Seems I didn’t refresh the page that I had the countdown going on (who would think Sony Ericsson would skip two full hours?). They’ve now made it official with a press release to accompany it. The device will find its way onto AT&T this Sunday for $149.99 (the Sony Style site still says $129.99, but it could just be a special pre-order bonus through them).

Per the press release, there is no confirmation on which version of Android this will ship with. Other notable changes from the international versions of the Xperia X10 includes 8GB of internal storage and this will still ship with a 2GB microSD card. Press details ahead.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Oh goody. Now at&t can ruin it.

  3. Is it still running 1.6?

  4. RT @SprintCustomer: Killer phone. If it werent on AT&T I’d order it this morning. Oh well.

  5. @whatev

Excuse me, what is wrong with my Samsung Captivate?

Even then I can root it and take off the bloatware.

  6. bout damn time. It was only supposed to come out nearly a year ago……………….

  7. Is it available in white? It’s looks are really the only thing that has any appeal left.

  8. FINALLY THE PHONE I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR!! i don’t care if it comes with 1.5 it will upgrade to 2.1 later this year. I just want a good piece of ANDROID hard ware. I hate the Aria, the crappy Back Flip, & Dell Streak WAY OVER SIZE. THANKS AT&T for making my day feel good!!

  9. @JJFNIGHTS80 Just a warning buddy Sony said they were going update this thing to 2.0 when it came out last November, if I were you I’d probably get that new Samsung. The phone is becoming the Behold 2 all over again seeing as both promised a update and both came out around the same time and have yet to deliver and this is Sony’s flagship phone. I’m no Samsung fanboy in fact I don’t like their phones at all but seeing as your on At&t its the best phone for right now. I would never give up my Nexus One for any phone on AT&T.

  10. In my opinion AT&T is a joke…The way they try to cripple Android so as not to take away from their precious “I Phone” is insane.

Quit yielding to Apple by throttling the capabilities of another OS and let the people decide what OS THEY prefer.

  11. What is interesting now…. is that we are comparing Andorid device between them (and not with an iphone) we can be pretentious :)…

  12. I don’t think this even supports multitouch. Samsung Captivate is still #1…until the Dell Thunder comes around. Now *that* will be an interesting phone.

  13. Last November I was giddy when I heard about this phone ….now ….all I can say is Epic Fail ….X10 could have been a hit but SE dropped the ball big time …

  14. Lol I remember when I would kill to have this phone. I passed up many great phones to wait for this one. This device its crippled as it is. Now at&t is about to put the cherry on the crap sundae

  15. I’m just glad AT&T is finally cutting loose some Android phones!

    stupid iPhone 4…

  16. I don’t care what version it is. I like the hard ware hard ware is better than the Back Flip and the Aria I’ve been waiting for this phone all year long now I’m available to get it on THE 15TH WHICH IS MY UPGRADE!! And 2.1 will be coming to X10 later this year people.

  17. I am with ya Frankie Flo! Phone should have been out ages ago, as a current Nexus One owner, I want to upgrade not transfer to an equivalent spec phone. I need 4.3 in screen, 1.5/2ghz dual core chip, 16MB or more internal memory + external SD, front facing camera, android 2.2 or above and 3G+ or 4G.

This shouldn’t be too much to ask this day and age. Sony please go back to drawing board and get you a new phone with an updated operating system and if your smart to meet the xmas rush.

  18. I can’t understand why anyone would want to get this phone over the captivate. This phone was released almost a year ago… Sony: lets create a lot of hype and show up fashionably late to the party.
A year later… Sony: oh shi.t, we’ re too late,no one wants to buy our phone.

  19. i don’t know if is just me or people are stupid, this phone is been talked about for a year and sony has not been able to updated yet and some of you still want this phone because is going to be updated soon????my god people, i ways thought that Steve job brain washed the iPhone user but i see that i was wrong, its at&t brain washing their customers.

  20. Hey, were on AT&T, we will take ANY cool Android phone that comes our way…. have you guys seen our selection? We cant just terminate our contracts at over $800 a cancellation just to go to Verizon to get real android phones….SO SHUT UP!!! Until Sprint and Verizon offer to pay our cancellation fees for us were fu#@ed by our contracts to stay with AT&T! I personally love my X10 even with Android 1.6 on it, it does everything I need it to and it gets it done fast, it plays all the games I throw at it at with no frame rate drop. And yes I do hate AT&T for not letting us update to eclair just yet, but my phone works for me. By the way my phone camera is still the SHIT!!!!
