By Twidroyd (once named Twidroid) is making more waves than ever in the news today. They’ve announced that they’ve been acquired by TweetUp, Inc., a start-up that specializes in tweet promotions for increasing followers and ultimately driving traffic to your website.

This combination should enable us to more rapidly refine our offerings, generating better user experiences for distribution partners and for users searching for the world’s best tweeters regardless of their choice of devices.
It’s being said that the name change is to avoid any licensing issues between the company and Lucas Arts over the “Droid” name (Verizon is one such company that enjoys their license to use the name on a majority of their Android devices).
Taking a quick look at the app reveals three big changes: the name (of course), a new “Suggest a Feature” menu item, and the TweetUp option on the app’s search section. Let’s say I want to run a search for “Android Phones”. If I searched using the regular Twitter search API, I would be greeted with more than a handful of “useless” tweets from people I don’t know (and couldn’t really care to know).
Using TweetUp’s option, on the other hand, I’m served up tweets and profiles from some great Android blogs (hint: Phandroid was one of the top results). Think of it as being similar to Twitter’s native “promoted trends and tweets” feature, except you’re actually being shown what matters to you and not what matters to Twitter’s wallets at any given point in time.
Whether or not this new acquisition and the features it brings to one of the biggest Twitter clients on the Android market is important to you, you can find the new version for download now (it also comes with a number of other fixes, changes, and features which are detailed in the changelog here).

Touiteur is the only twitter app for me!
Using Seesmic over here.
Although I stopped using it when the official app launched it is easily better than any other Twitter app and the numbers prove it.
I much prefer Seesmic but that’s beside the point.
If Lucas owns ‘droid’, then why are there 100s if not 1000s of applications (and at least 3 phones for that matter) that use the word droid with out issue? Or is a storm coming?

Using Twidroid (Twidroyd, whatever) Pro and I love it.
@Chris: I think it’s a defensive position more than anything, so that they can protect themselves or avoid said storm if and when it comes.
Twidroid has always been the best tweeter application IMO. I use the official twitter app though. I don’t do much tweeting.
I switched over to Touiteur as my Twitter app.
I’ve used pro for about a year now and love it ! I’d never change .
Reading all of these comments bring a slight warmth to my stomach. I used Twidroid for quite sometime until I found Twicca.
I strongly recommend that you try this application out before saying that Twidroid (Twidroyd) or that Touiteur is your Twitter application of choice!
