The Wait For Froyo on the Motorola Droid Begins… Now; Sign Up to be Notified

16

The moment Google announced Froyo, many people already had an idea of who would not only be first in line to receive the goods, but second, as well. The Motorola Droid – with its millions of users thanks to Verizon’s extensive (and exhaustive) Droid Does campaign – was the obvious candidate as we saw how quickly they were updated to Android 2.1 (if we’re talking in relative terms, anyway).

It looks like Motorola has been hammering away at getting the update ready for a little while, now, and they’ve allowed users to sign up to a forum thread to receive an email notification when there is more to report regarding Android 2.2. Signing up for updates have long meant that something good awaits users around the corner, so Froyo might be on the menu for the coming weeks (if it’s of any relevance to you, the Nexus One still has yet to get the upgrade to Android 2.2 on a large scale).

Remember that you must sign up for a forum account at Motorola’s site in order to receive updates, so go over there and do that now if you haven’t already.

[Update]: One of our gracious moderators Trident has posted his own thread at our sister site AndroidForums.com that you can subscribe to if you’d like to be notified when Motorola has more information to provide regarding the upgrade to Android 2.2. If you don’t fancy making a new account over at Motorola’s place, then head over to AF and Trident will update the thread as soon as Motorola updates theirs.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Its good that phones are getting the 2.2 update.

  2. The current Nexus One Froyo update is technically unofficial. I think Google is planning a simultaneously update of Nexus One and Droid.

  3. Now if we can only get them to release 2.2 for the Nexus. The leaked version runs great on mine, but I’d like to see what it is fully capable of.

  4. I signed up but will probably force a update by downloading the file from Phandroid…

Just like I did for 2.1 update!

  5. FINALLY!!! HELLO HULU!!

  6. Hey Quentyn.. I’ve made a similar thread for our Android Forums members. You might consider updating this article to include it. http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/90379-receive-email-notification-when-2-2-released.html#post854898

  8. @AgEnTsMiTh

theres a good chance from what ive read that hulu will block access by android handsets.

  9. @Joel – please don’t use gay offensively. After all, Androids don’t have a sexual orientation.

Although Hulu blocks access to all mobile devices, most browsers have an option where you can identify yourself as either a phone or desktop. Changing that setting to desktop will allow you to view content on Hulu. You can do it now with the skyfire browser in the android market.

  11. now if only motorola or google will sprinkle some poopie dust on the droid to make it’s 5mp camera better than my old 2 mp iphone camera – that would be sweet

  12. I can’t wait for the apps to SD card! I need some SPACE!

omg! they said they’d never heard how bad it is at the verizon store before, but it’s total crap! I just got it last month and have already ordered the incredible to replace it!

  14. Moto did this for 2.1 as well, anyone know the dates an maybe we can get an idea how long between the them an project a launch date?

  15. how some companies like Motorola makes these updates so fast & for some (like acer) it takes ages to get even 2.1 out?
