NTT DoCoMo, Japan’s largest mobile operator and the twentieth in the world with 53 million subscribers, is a founding member of the Open Handset Alliance. So far though, we haven’t heard a peep from them in terms of Android offerings. What gives? I contacted NTT DoCoMo who confirmed that they will be releasing an Android Handset between April and September 2009.
The official statement I got was short:
Thank you for your inquiry.
We aim to launch the Android based phone in the first half of the fiscal year 2009.(Apr.-Sep in 2009).
That’s all we could comment at this time.Best Regards,
NTT DOCOMO
Japanese Android fans should be smiling ear to ear right now… it’ll be a good year for you! The Asian countries tend to see much better mobile technology than the states, always ahead of the curve in terms of widespread adoption of high end technology. That being said, they’ve been craving Android and have got nothing yet. It’ll be interesting to see what type of Android devices pop up in Asia.
We won’t have to wait long to find out…
Nice work contacting them.
