Android G1: Sept 23rd in NYC?

4

According to a Reuters article, the Android G1 is likely to be announced in New York City on September 23rd. The news comes from journalists Nicola Leske and Nikola Rotscheroth as Reuters was apparently informed/tipped by two separate people (not the journalists we assume) that the NYC showdown was occurring.

Authenticity? Not sure… but anything reported by Reuters is usually pretty solid as they’ve got a great reputation. Regardless, we’re suckers for a firm launch on Android although we would be happy for a Chrome like surprise:

“Oh… hey, yeah guys. Apparently someone pressed the FedEx “send” button on accident so there are like, a bunch of Android phones available in stores now and stuff.”

We’ll keep you poste don details!

  1. Announced or launched? These are two very different things (although great news either way).

  2. Good question. Here is the quote from the original article:

“T-Mobile and Google will be making an announcement this month in New York City,” two people told Reuters on Wednesday, adding Sept 23 was a likely date for the announcement.

So it would appear to be an “announcement”. I’m wondering if Google/HTC/T-Mobile are going to make a big media event out of it. That’s not very Google-Like but then again, they aren’t the only ones who have a show to run. I echo your sentiments that an “announcement’ isn’t as cool as a “launch” but I’ll take what I can get!

  3. Thanks for the info! I’m with you as far as taking what we can get. I’m dying for some concrete info on the G1. Keep up the great work on the site!

  4. ALREADY IN STORES, whoever hit the send buttons in trouble.
